The sun was beginning to melt into the skyline of Hermitcraft, saturating the city with a warm glow that contrasted sharply with the dark intentions brewing in Pearl's heart. On the rooftop of her crumbling hideout, a stark contrast against the shadows was her striking figure, crowned by glossy brown hair cascading around her shoulders. She was a fierce supervillain, known for cunning strategies and her blue eyes that could freeze anyone in place.
But on that evening, something felt different. Just as I was about to take my shoes off the rooftop, she thought, her fingers grazing the edge of the worn-out boots that had carried her through countless heists. An unexpected shout disrupted her inner chaos, breaking through her spiraling thoughts.
"Hey, don't do it, please!"
It destabilized her, and she turned her gaze to see a girl with fiery red hair, braided meticulously, standing just a few feet away, her green eyes wide with concern. Pearl crossed her arms, irritation bubbling up. Whoa, wait a minute, what did I just say? She was confused, bothered—this was a moment meant for her.
But the girl continued, "You've probably heard it all before, but everyone ignores me, everyone steals." Her voice trembled as she took a step toward Pearl, her desperation palpable. "I don't fit in with anyone here. For God's sake, please! Are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason, you got here before me!"
Despite herself, Pearl found her heart racing with annoyance and curiosity. Who did this girl think she was, interrupting her perfectly orchestrated moment? What horrors lay behind her green eyes, the same pain Pearl felt but cloaked in darkness? All at once, the girl exhaled a quavering breath and whispered, "I thought he might be the one... but then he told me he was done."
The irony wasn't lost on Pearl, who had always envisioned herself as the villain in someone's story, not its hero. "Listen," Pearl started, "You don't understand. I've been robbed of far more than you can imagine. Whining about heartache won't change a thing. So go on, find your happiness elsewhere."
But the girl's face paled. "You're lucky you've never been robbed of anything!"
In that moment, Pearl realized the girl was conveying far more than jealousy or anger. She was a mirror, reflecting what Pearl had been hiding all along—her own insecurities. "I'm feeling better, thank you for listening," the girl declared almost cheerfully, before suddenly vanishing into thin air like a dream that fades upon waking.
The shadows loomed thick around Pearl now. Alright, today's the day, she thought once more, when another petite figure suddenly appeared before her. Short, with hair that seemed to absorb the sunlight, she wore a yellow cardigan that was far too bright for Pearl's world.
"Please," the girl pleaded, her voice soft and trembling, "don't jump." It took Pearl off guard. It felt surreal, like something out of a twisted tale. "Everyone ignores me, I don't fit in with anyone here," the girl continued, voice cracking. "For God's sake, please! Are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason you got here before me! You—you're loved by everyone, aren't you? There's always dinner waiting on your table. You even have a home to return to!"
For the first time, Pearl's icy demeanor melted a bit, washed away by empathy. "I'm hungry," the petite girl said, shedding a tear, her vulnerability disarming Pearl once more. Despite Pearl's natural inclination to shrug off such sentiments, the resonance of their shared pain was undeniable.
The girl melted away like smoke, and Pearl was alone... again. Each encounter was a ghostly reminder that they were lost souls seeking solace at the edge of oblivion, endlessly destined to seek what they pitifully lacked: connection.
The weight of loneliness settled heavily upon Pearl's chest. She was used to listening to others, to being the one in control, yet here she was, resonating with their struggles. There's no one here today; I guess it's time. She advanced toward the ledge, needing to escape the turmoil brewing inside her.
But instead of a release, something else happened. She saw another girl, a familiar figure—this time with tangled hair and round glasses perched on her nose, her expression marred by anguish. "I just wanna stop the scars that grow every time I go home. That's why I came up here instead, to escape..."
Pearl's heart raced anew. Whoa, wait a minute, what did I just say?
"Hey, don't do it, please!" she shrieked, horrified at the insight that was spiraling further into the depths of despair. Ah, what was she doing? Why was she reaching for this girl instead of casting her away? A newfound worry held her in place even when her nature urged her to retreat. "You don't have to do this!" But the weight of her own pain seeped through her resolve.
Before she could grab the girl's arm, she was gone, evaporating into the very air they breathed, like spirits imprisoned in shared agony.
There was silence once more. Pearl felt that all of them had touched a part of her she had kept hidden, urging her to confront the shadows that danced behind her blue eyes. But Pearl knew her path, black as night, a world defined by chaos and cunning.
With a final glance at the shimmering horizon, her own reflection glimmered back at her—a villain, a villain her city had come to expect, standing face-to-face with untold fragility.
This is where I belong, she thought and, with the weight of her decisions pressing on her heart, she stepped back from the ledge, her shoes still on. Instead of embracing despair, she chose defiance. She turned away from the edge and the haunting echoes of lives entwined in turbulence. Though the scars remained, Pearl decided perhaps her darkness had the power to redefine—one heist at a time.
And with that, she vanished back into the shadows of Hermitcraft, the sun continuing its descent, while the city held its breath, waiting, ever waiting.
I think this chapter was cute?? I couldn't comprehend it, and I put for a bad ending but it came out good. also a more pearl centered chapter.
