With the only chance he had to escape.
He hadn't taken it.
He left the phone there, he waited for Vincent to come back up.
And he still couldn't pinpoint why.
He wanted to shame himself, to tell himself how much of a moron he really was.
In a way though, he was drawn to Vincent. Something about this man was so familiar, so recognizable. And William couldn't figure the answer out.
And with the chance of being able to call the police, he had rejected it.
"William! Have you seen my phone?" Vincent mumbled as he sauntered back up into the attic, he rummaged through a nearby of cabinets before spotting it on the bed. He grabbed it quickly, suddenly squinting his eyes as he gazed over at William with a sly smile.
"Hah, it would've been major shit for me if you realized I left it." He shrugged, jamming the mobile device back into his side pocket.
William smiled weakly, "Guess I just didn't notice," he replied with a nervous nip at his bottom lip.
Without another word, Vincent tramped down the attic, but surprisingly, he left the attic door open. How odd, the man was always so.. strict about shutting it closed.
William swung his legs over the edge of the bed, carefully hoping off. He was feeling particularly confident right now, nearing the attic entrance and peering down. He spotted the sight of the interior in the house, it was a basic ivory, adorned with baby blue edges and seafoam green decorations. Vincent's house being ocean-themed was yet another surprise to him. However, it was a very relaxing surrounding. With a gentle step, he padded down, his bare feet shivering at the sensation of the cold, marble floor.
He stared quite a bit at it, wondering just how rich this man was. It appeared he was on the second story, no wait... he neared the intricate, silver railing in front of him, leering over the edge... he was on the third story. In fact, as his eyes traveled heavenward, an illuminated, aquamarine chandelier hung from the broad ceiling, embellished with stained glass seashells and ceramic sea turtles.
William blinked at it in fascination, leaning over the edge as he searched around for wherever Vincent could've headed off to. He didn't spot anything, so he walked back to the entrance of the attic, god forbid Vincent spots him.
With a swift snatch though, William felt hands drag him away from the entrance. "What the fuck were you thinking trying to escape?" He snapped, turning the other man swiftly around.
"Who said I was trying to escape?! I just.." He looked back to the attic stairs before inhaling sharply, "Missed you.. I wanted to go after you."
Vincent simply laughed at his statement, bringing him back to his rightful place with force William hadn't felt before.
"Please Vincent! I swear I'm not lying!" He yelped, trying to push against Vincent. Now that he had a breath of what was outside the attic, he for sure did not want to get put back in. "Vincent, please..." He whined.
Vincent unbuckled the door and spread down the stairs, yanking his arm. "Oh shut up, it's not that bad. Besides, you think you're going to get out of this without a punishment?"
William whined once again, pulling back. "I swear I wasn't trying to escape... I did it because .."
"What? Because you thought I'd just be completely careless of you wondering around my house? You've clearly shown me you hate me, you hate it here, and that means you are not allowed to get out of this attic at all." He finally pulled William up with all his force and thudded his head against the floor.
Just as William scrambled after him, he latched the door close, making sure to lock it this time.
But, it hurt his heart to hear William calling after him, begging him. "What could you possibly want from me, Afton?" He ankled back toward the closed entry. With a sigh, he unlatched the lock away and opened it just barely to hear William's voice.
"Vincent, Vincent, please, I think I love you..." He clutched at the floorboards with a troubled expression.
"You're saying that because you think it'll make me more vulnerable with you, and then you'll just try and backstab me, I may be desperate for you, but I am no idiot... I love you too William, but it's not working..." Vincent frowned, releasing the gate and pushing it upwards, walking away to drown himself in William's desperate wails.
