He guessed my favourite color on the first try.

But, between you and I. I didn't even have a favourite color until he yelled out yellow.

He was excited and beamed with a smile full of joy, so I told him he was right.

And I haven't seen yellow the same since.

It's in everything, I could probably live in it now.

...

William hummed to himself softly, listening to the chirping of cardinals, their feathers matching with the delicate arrays of reds, oranges, and yellows amongst the late autumn trees.

It was a rather chilly day out, and Vincent wasn't far from him. The leaves had just started changing to their fall-like colors, and William knew how much Vincent adored it. Especially, when the leaves were a vibrant yellow. He wasn't sure why Vincent liked the color so much, it was much too bright for William's eyes.

William surveyed his surroundings a bit more, they were sitting near a graveyard, it was midday with the sun out yet gelid breezes filled the air, and William was sitting on the pavement that led to the section second of gravestones, writing in his journal. Meanwhile, Vincent was standing up top a nearby grave, most likely reaching for the rubber ball perched high in the tree trunks of a colorful, perched apple-tree.

William shut his journal and teetered over to the other little boy, confuzzled by the sight above him. "Vince.. how did you even manage to get it that high up?" He muttered with disappointment.

Vincent giggled in return, standing on his tiptoes as he threw increasingly larger sticks at it. ".. Well, I was maybe messing around and trying to hit this squirrel but it turned into a disaster."

William glared at him, "That's what you get for hurting innocent animals." He squeaked, glancing at the blond boy defiantly.

"William, seriously. It's just a squirrel." He scoffed, his expression that showed slight vexation had turned into an enthusiastic grin when one stick finally dislodged it from the tree. He careened toward the rubber object, the vivid crimson of it blending in with the colors of the autumn forest.

"You wouldn't do it if it was a kitten stuck up there!" William yelped as tottered after Vincent's retreating figure.

Vincent ignored his argument, humming happily as he admired the leaves. When William caught up to him, he grabbed for his wrist, pulling him closer. "Which do you prefer?"

William blinked before scanning the circumambient once again, he peered back at Vincent with an expecting glance of confusion.

"I meant the leaves," he smiled, observing William as he looked around again.

"Ohhh, the yellow ones, I guess. Because you like them." William shrugged.

Vincent raised an eyebrow, "That's not a valid reason, y'know.." His fingers reaching over to interlock with the other boy, their hands pressed tightly together as they walked down the dirt path; full of scattered auburn leaves and marigold trunks.

"Yes. Yes, it is. I want to love what you love, because I love you." He naively spoke, patting the top of Vincent's gold strands.

"Ah?" Vincent squeaked, "Well, I love you too then." He gave William a faint smile, however it faded when he realized the sun setting heavenward of them. "Come on, we should head home soon, Ma' will get upset at us.."

William huffed, watching as Vincent sped up and ankled off into the horizon without him.
