Leo

IT HAD been two days since Drew Tanaka had stopped Leo on his way to his cabin, telling him to check up on Andy. Two days since he'd rushed into the bathroom to find his Valkyrie sprawled on the floor, sobbing her insides out. Two days since he'd spent nearly half an hour holding her as she cried into his chest. Two days since he'd finally managed to take her to the Apollo cabin, where she took one look at Will Solace and broke down again, crying, "Lee, Will. Our Lee!"

She'd clung to her blond brother like he'd disappear if she let go. Will, shocked and concerned, had pulled her inside and shut the door after thanking Leo for bringing her in.

That was the last time he had seen her.

Leo's life had only gone downhill since then. Every other hour, something or the other would go wrong. It had gotten so bad he wondered if Andy should be titled his lucky charm.

The day before, Annabeth had pointed out that the ship's lower deck was not strong enough to support the upper deck, so they'd had to rework the whole structure. Nyssa had to visit her mother for an emergency, so they were short on builders. And now, as if the Fates hadn't fucked him up well enough, Leo had lost Buford.

He stormed around the bunker, cursing himself for being so stupid while Jason tried to calm him down.

"It's okay, Leo," Jason said. "I'm here to help you."

Leo was grateful for Jason being here right now. He really was. But he doubted Superman could stop the disaster that was to come.

Jason looked cool and confident as usual—all surfer-dude handsome with his blond hair and sky-blue eyes. The scar on his mouth and the sword at his side gave him a rugged appearance, like he could handle anything.

"Just tell me what happened," he urged.

Leo could barely stop fidgeting. He took a deep breath. “Okay, Superman. This is serious. Buford’s gone. If we don’t get him back, this whole place is going to explode.”

"Explode? That's not what I expected when Jake told me you needed me."

Leo's breath caught at the sound of her voice. Smooth, rich, strong, deep. So, so lovely.

"Andy?" Jason looked like he was suddenly standing on glass shards.

Andy grinned. "The one and only."

Leo didn't know what to say. Andy looked so normal, so fine, as if she hadn't just spent two days isolated in her cabin after a breakdown. Leo had tried to see her that morning, but, like the previous visits, he had been sent away by Will.

So now, when she stood there in her jeans and orange camp t-shirt, hair braided and the twinkle back in her eyes, he was as confused as he was relieved.

Andy raised an eyebrow. "So, are you going to tell me who Buford is?"

Leo just stared at her, unable to talk. Jason looked like he had something bitter stuck in his mouth. Andy looked expectantly between the two of them.

When it was clear neither of them were going to speak, she sighed.

"Listen, guys," she said, "I know you're worried, but I'm fine, okay? We're demigods. Shit happens. We lose people. We cry about it. Sometimes we find hidden motives behind their deaths and cry again. It's not that big of a deal."

"But it is a big deal," Leo spoke at last. "It's a big deal to me that my best friend just locked herself in for two days and then came out pretending everything's fine."
