Through Fire

Seventeen

I wash away with the water. Everytime I try to pull myself up to the surface I get pulled under again. I have no more strength left and for a minute I decide to just give up. To just let it be. I closed my eyes for what felt like hours, but was probably just minutes.

Then the water pushes me back really hard and I hit my head so hard I scream under water. Causing water to fill my lungs. The water seems to get lower and I am able to get myself to the surface. Coughing like hell.

I put a hand to the back of my head and when I look at my hand it is all covered in blood. I get very dizzy and try to limb to a fallen tree trunk so I can sit against it. When I finally sit down I start seeing dots. And everything goes black.

''Sweetie.'' I feel someone softly shake me. ''Sweetie.'' The voice gets louder and the shaking gets harder. ''Buck.'' Is the only thing I manage to get out. ''I need to find Buck.'' I try to stand up, but when I do everything goes black again and I immediately fall down. ''Calm down sweetie. We will get you to safety.'' ''No I need to find Buck.'' God I hope they are okay. It has already gotten dark outside.

My arms are completely scraped open. My jeans are ripped and my hair is covered in blood. My leg, back and head are killing me. A small woman and a man slowly help me up. ''Are we going to find Buck?'' ''Yes sweetie we are.'' The small woman says. We slowly walk, well more like I limp leaning on the man and the woman.

Buck and Chris are probably safe right? Being with Buck is the safest thing in this situation right now. Oh god, dad. I hope he is okay. He was working of course. Oh god. Suddenly I start getting all dizzy again.

''I need to puke.'' I lean forward and everything just comes out. ''Let it out sweetie.'' ''She needs to get to the hospital.'' The man says. ''No I'm fine.'' ''No you're not. I don't want to freak you out but your head is bleeding again.'' The man says.

I feel my head and when I pull my hand back it's covered in wet blood. ''Oh god. That's not good is it?'' The man and woman give each other a look, but say nothing. But at the same time everything I need to know.

We come to a stop where people are handing out water and blankets. The man grabs two. One to wrap around me and the other one pressed against my head. ''How do you feel?'' The woman asks to hand me some water. ''I need to find Buck.''

''We will find him okay?'' ''Alive?'' She opens her mouth to say something, but closes it. A small white transport truck stops for us. A lot of people including us get in. I slowly feel my eyes drop and no matter how good I wrap the blanket around me I am freezing.

''Stay awake sweety.'' ''I'm just so tired and c-c-cold.'' I start to shake due to the cold. ''Her lips are turning purple and her blood pressure is dropping.'' The man says holding my wrist. I fall in and out of consciousness.

''Buck. I need. To find Buck.'' Everything feels so heavy. I only realize the truck has come to a stop when the man lifts me up and carries me outside. ''Help. I need help. Paramedic." The man yells. Then everything goes dark again.

''Sofia.'' That is a voice I recognize. ''Dad.'' ''Oh baby you're okay.'' ''Buck.'' ''Buck is here baby. He is fine. Chris is fine.'' ''Buck.'' My eyes start to drop again. ''Oh god. Sofia, stay awake. Look Buck is here.'' ''Buck.'' ''I'm here sweetie.'' Dad and Buck both hold my hand when I am being rolled inside the hospital. Then it all gets dark again.

When I open my eyes I am in a church. Everyone is dressed in black. It looks like a funeral. I walk to the front. ''We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of Sofia Isabella Diaz.'' The priest says. I look at a picture of myself next to a closed coffin.

''What no. I am not dead, I am right here.'' I yell now standing in front of everybody. The only faces I can make out are my mom's, Buck's, Chris's And dad's. The rest of the people there have no face. ''Hello? I am right here.'' Nobody seems to hear me.
