Years passed since the Wilsons fled Ravenbrook, and the Widow's House remained untouched. Overgrown with vines and shadowed by tall trees, the house had an almost hypnotic pull to those who came too close. Despite its haunted history, it had become a curiosity for thrill-seekers—urban explorers, paranormal enthusiasts, and skeptics who dared to challenge the tale of Evelyn, the Ghost Mother.
One summer, a group of college students—Ben, Sara, Marcus, and Lily—arrived in the village, looking for adventure. They had heard the rumors of the Widow's House and dismissed it as local folklore. To them, it was the perfect place to spend a night, record some footage, and prove the ghost stories wrong.
"It's just a house," Ben said confidently as they stood at the overgrown entrance. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the decaying structure. "There's no such thing as ghosts."
Sara hesitated, her eyes scanning the house. "Maybe, but it looks... different. Like it's watching us."
"Come on," Marcus teased, nudging her. "You scared of some old walls?"
Lily, always the more serious one, glanced at the others. "Let's not be stupid. If we're doing this, we need to be careful. We stay together."
As the last light of day faded, they made their way inside, their flashlights cutting through the dust-filled air. The house was eerily quiet, save for the creak of old floorboards beneath their feet. In the living room, they found remnants of the past—old furniture draped in sheets, a fireplace blackened with soot, and photographs so faded they were unrecognizable.
"This place is creepy," Sara whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "What if the stories are true?"
"They're not," Ben said dismissively. "We'll prove it."
But as they ventured deeper into the house, strange things began to happen. The temperature dropped dramatically, and the faint scent of lavender filled the air. Lily's flashlight flickered, and for a brief moment, she thought she saw something move in the corner of her eye—a shadow too quick to follow.
"Did you guys see that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Marcus shrugged. "See what?"
Lily shook her head, trying to convince herself it was nothing. But deep down, she knew they weren't alone.
