I felt like someone just dislodged a thorn from my throat. I couldn't believe that Lucas called. There were so many questions I wanted to ask him, like: why on earth did he have to leave? and where did he hide all these years? I was filled with excitement as I paced the floor, anxious to see him again. All these years I have wondered if he had been abducted or killed. I've had many sleepless nights, tossing and turning as my conscience led me to believe that it was my fault. Being away from my family had made this even worse. Coming home to an almost empty dorm room made me wonder if I had made the right decision leaving them behind.

After school, I walked to the library. The cold breeze made my head swell as I walked the empty streets. The moonlight was not enough to light up the dark sidewalk. The doors of the library were locked. It was a good thing I brought a swiss knife. I wasn't the person who would break into a library and just the thought of it seemed humorous. I could imagine the headlines read: "Girl breaks into a library...says she wants to quench her thirst for knowledge".

One swipe of the knife and I got in. I got to the second floor, switched on one of the lights, and waited for Lucas to show up. I assumed I'd be staying here for a while so I decided to grab a book to kill some time. So I slumped on the carpet and started reading. Then suddenly, I heard someone call my name. The voice was coming from one of the shelves. It got louder as I neared one of the bookshelves. Then the voice stopped. I turned my head but no one was there.

"Alice, I'm over here" he said in whispers.

I saw his silhouette at a distance.

"Lucas? Is that you?"...
