Hunter stood up, still relatively shocked about what had just taken place. He wasn't thinking about the scars on his body, or his black eye, or even the significant amount of pain he was in.
Because all he could think about was how the literal "queen" of St Aberidge had just kissed him. And even though he felt stupid or like a kid by even just thinking about it. She hadn't just kissed him on the cheek, or on the forehead, but on the lips. He couldn't believe it.In that small moment in time, it had almost been as if everything Hunter had been dreaming of had just come true. Not only that, but the heartbroken expression on Mason's face alone felt like a big enough trophy to pay for the damage he had inflicted on Hunter's body. But at the same time so many questions ran through his mind.
What had made her do it? Why had she done it? Did she actually like him too?
"Let's go," Amber stated, turning her head away from Mason. Unlike Hunter, she wasn't drowning herself in her thoughts. Instead she had finally made the decisive move to detach herself from her relationship with Mason, and you could tell by the determined look in her eyes that she had no regret about what she had just done.
"Don't look back at him, just follow me." she commanded, quickly grabbing Hunter by his hand, and leading him forward.
"Umm ok," Hunter replied, immediately looking down at his and Amber's hands locked together. As stupid as it sounded, he had never actually held hands with anyone, but just like that he was now doing it with the girl he knew he liked. He almost felt as though he were a newborn baby entering into a whole new world of wonders.
"Where're we going?" he asked, realizing he had no idea what was actually happening.
"To my dorm," Amber replied, pulling his arm relatively harder.
Like a few of the rich kids at St Aberidge whose parents actually owned a share at the school, Amber had a dorm all to herself. She could use it to her heart's content, and even though she had come to the school as a day scholar, she could choose at any given time to stay on school property, even overnight."But we've got assembly, and I've got classes," Hunter countered. Unlike her, he couldn't afford to hinder his time at St Aberidge.
Amber rolled her eyes, and ignored Hunter's complaints, "don't worry, I won't take too long." She assured."Is that so?" Becky skeptically asked, following close behind the two of them.
"Yes," Amber replied, trying to sound a tad bit more genuine."Sure," Becky replied, letting out a low laugh.
The three of them then entered the school hallway, and made their way past the hoards of students in front of them.
But even though they were moving so fast, it didn't take Hunter long to notice that everyone seemed to be staring at him. Some of the eyes he saw spouted jealousy, others spouted curiosity, but most of the ones that he saw spouted pure shock. He could imagine that it was probably because they were just as confused as he was, wondering why " The Amber. Stone" had left her amazingly hot boyfriend, for a scholarship student like him.
It didn't make a lot of sense to anyone.......even her."Is it just me, is everyone staring at us?" Hunter finally asked, facing his head towards the ground in embarrassment. He wasn't really used to being under so many gazes.
Amber looked up at him, and stopped in her tracks. Then she frowned, and bit her lip. "Raise your head higher," she said, sounding a bit like she was demanding it. "You're my boyfriend now, walk with confidence."
She smiled, and moved closer into Hunter. Then she held his face gently, and slowly lifted his head up, "like that," she said. Hunter felt his cheeks heat up, and a surge of heat went spiralling through his body.
