Gautam woke up, startled when the mattress dipped beside him, and he instinctively reached for the bedside lamp when the familiar voice stopped him -
"Hey, it's just me."
Gautam relaxed immediately and scooted over to make room for Virat.
"Did I wake you?" Virat asked worriedly as he lied down beside him, and Gautam shook his head, pulling him closer against his chest like he'd done a thousand times before.
"It's fine. Just come here," He murmured and pressed a soft kiss against his temple.
He sneaked his hand inside Virat's t-shirt to rest it on his back. "You've gotten too thin," Gautam remarked as he traced his spine, making him shiver.
"I've not gotten thin, you grump. You just want me to be the size of a whale," Virat said, his voice muffled against his chest.
Gautam smiled slightly, knowing that Virat was fine if he was joking around.
"Saroj ma told me to take care of her sher puttar, what am I going to say if you turn into a matches ki tilli?"
Virat pulled back, and although Gautam couldn't see him in the dark, he knew the boy was pouting.
"Maa always thinks I'm one second away from being blown away. At least you take my side," He whined loudly, lightly smacking his chest.
Gautam chuckled and shook his head, "When have I not been on your side, chand?"
Virat didn't say anything, just snuggled his face into his chest, and Gautam knew the younger boy was blushing at the old nickname.
"Yeh das mainu, kya dekha iss vaari?"
Virat stiffened at his question, and Gautam knew he was right. He also knew that Virat's nightmare ranged from bad to worse.
He grew worried when Virat didn't say anything for a few minutes and tightened his grip on him.
"Don't do that. Don't go silent on me now, you know you can tell me anything. When have I ever made fun of you?"
Virat sighed loudly and nodded, hiding his face in the crook of Gautam's neck. "Never," He murmured lightly.
"Exactly," Gautam kept stroking his back, smiling as Virat shivered and leaned into his touch.
Gautam smirked when his breath hitched, and he held on his hand tightly. He knew exactly what Virat needed, and no matter how aloof he acted in front of the team, Gautam was the only person he seeked.
"Chal ab," Gautam murmured and brushed another kiss on his temple. "You know you'll feel better after talking about it."
Virat collapsed against his chest, and his hands gripped Gautam's arms like he was a drowning man waiting to be saved.
"I will," He breathed out shakily. "But can you do that - what you do, uh, that first?"
Gautam's lips twitched, and he grinned at how cute Virat sounded, still hesitant to say it out loud.
"Of course, baby."
They had been best friends for fifteen years, and Gautam remembered exactly how many times it had happened.
Gautam scooted down until his head was at the level of Virat's neck. He leaned forward and circled his arms around his waist.
"I can see how much you're blushing even in the dark," Gautam chuckled, seeing the dark tint on his cheeks.
Virat huffed and tried to push him off, "You need to stop looking so smug."
"You like it when I act like this. Don't even try to deny it."
