Kyomi woke up to the sound of muffled voices and footsteps. The soft sway of the boat reminded her where she was, but it took a moment for her groggy mind to catch up. She glanced around the small lounge, the sunlight filtering through the long window casting a golden glow across the room.

The knock on the door echoed in her head, and she sat up quickly, her heart beating faster. Had someone actually been knocking? Or had it been part of her dream?

She rubbed her eyes and listened carefully, but the voices outside seemed distant now, just the usual sounds of the dock. No more knocking.

Letting out a sigh of relief, she swung her legs off the couch and stood up. Her body still felt heavy with exhaustion, but she couldn't stay hidden down here forever. She needed to face the rest of the day, no matter how much she dreaded it.

As she walked toward the door, she caught a glimpse of herself in the small mirror on the wall—disheveled hair, a slightly rumpled outfit. She ran her fingers through her hair to smooth it down, not that it really mattered. No one was expecting her to look perfect, and she certainly wasn't trying to impress anyone.

Especially not Nicholas.

Kyomi opened the door cautiously and peeked outside. The dock was quieter than before, most of the families already out on their boats. She didn't see her parents, but there were a few other people milling around, chatting and packing up the and still fishing.

But then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw him. She eyed down his navy blue polo shirt tucked into cream colored high-waisted white trousers. She watched as he glanced down at his leather belt and wristwatch with a brown leather strap.

Nicholas was sitting on a bench not far from the dock, his fishing gear by his side. He hadn't noticed her yet, thankfully, but the sight of him brought back all the confusion and frustration she had been trying to push aside. He looked deep in thought, tapping his fingers on his knee as if he were waiting for something—or someone.

Kyomi debated going back inside, pretending she hadn't seen him, but before she could retreat, Nicholas looked up. Their eyes met again, and this time, there was no avoiding it.

His expression softened as he figured she was just gonna ignore him again. She decided to break the ice, she sat down next to him.

"Hey," she said, her voice tentative, as if she wasn't sure how he'd react.

Kyomi folded her arms, feeling the tension return. "Hey, you finally decided to just stop ignoring me.." he replied, keeping his tone neutral.

"I just-, I hate mixed signals and I just happened to see you with someone else the other day" She snapped boldly but kept her tone down.
