Kyomi never told Nicholas about the things Courtney and Nia had whispered when they thought she wasn't listening—the remarks about her being "lucky" to be with someone like him, or the way they'd scoffed that he was "out of her league." She kept those words to herself, burying the sting they left. She didn't want to come off as insecure or jealous, and she couldn't quite explain why their opinions mattered so much to her.
There were moments she wanted to tell him, though. Especially when he'd flash her one of those reassuring smiles or insist she was the one he was lucky to have.
So she kept it to herself, letting the memory of their words fade, or at least, trying to. It was a strange kind of weight she carried alone, one she didn't know how to share. As much as she trusted Nicholas, she just wasn't ready to risk him seeing her through anyone else's eyes—especially not through the envious, judgmental gaze of those girls.
"Hey, who's that guy..you're always with?" Jen asked with the volleyball in her arms.
"...he's- my..we're talking" She replied looking at the sand in between her toes.
"Cool.." she smirked knowing it was more than that.
"He looks so much older than you.." she added
Kyomi wanted to answer but she couldn't lie, she actually had no clue on how exactly old he was.
It didn't sit in her head for long tho.
"My parents, they saw us?" She asked
"...Your mom asked me about him the other day, she wanted to know if I knew anything. I told her no" Jen confessed
"...I hate to say thank you cause there's nothing really to hide but thanks" Kyomi sighed palming her forehead
"Hey, it's whatever.. you're old enough now to do whatever you want" she answered, Kyomi softly smiled at her nodding.
"I wish my parents thought that. I'm gonna be living on my own in just a few months, I'm not gonna stand for their fucking rules then so why do it now?" She ranted
"Yea I get it, my mom was the opposite. She didn't care very much and it got me into trouble. I didn't have any experience or expectations to expect while on my own" Jen confessed, Kyomi sighed.
