I strolled down the bustling streets of Chicago with Mello, the crisp autumn air swirling around us, carrying the smell of street food and the distant sounds of music. We had just hit up a few local shops to grab supplies for our upcoming podcast episode. Mello was chattering about her latest obsession with a new indie artist, and I was half-listening, my mind wandering back to the podcast interview I’d just done.

“...and then she was all like, ‘I’m not backing down,’ right?” Mello’s voice cut through my thoughts, and I chuckled, nodding along.

“Yeah, something like that,” I replied, but deep down, I was still feeling the weight of everything that had been happening with Star Bandz. Just as I was getting lost in my thoughts, Mello suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

“What’s up?” I asked, following her gaze. My heart dropped as I spotted Star a few feet away, leaning casually against a lamppost with her crew. Her hair was flawless, her outfit on point, and she looked effortlessly cool. I felt a rush of anxiety hit me like a ton of bricks.

“Yo, that’s Star!” Mello exclaimed, excitement lighting up her face. “Should we go say hi?”

I shook my head quickly, panic coursing through me. “Nah, let’s go the other way.” I wasn’t ready to deal with her again, especially after that comment she made. The last thing I needed was to ignite another drama fire.

“C’mon, Treu. It’s just Star,” Mello urged, but I had already started to pivot on my heels, trying to steer us in the opposite direction.

But before I could take two steps, I felt a firm grip on my arm, stopping me dead in my tracks. I turned to find Star looking at me with a mix of annoyance and amusement.

“Where do you think you’re going, Treu?” she asked, her voice low but loud enough to cut through the noise of the street.

I forced a smile, trying to play it cool, but inside, my heart raced. “Oh, just out running errands, you know? Nothing to see here.” I tried to step back, but her grip tightened.

“You think you can just walk away after everything that’s happened? If I hear my name come out your mouth one more time, we gon’ have a problem.” Her eyes were fierce, and there was an intensity there that made my stomach flip.

Mello shot me a glance, clearly caught between wanting to support me and the realization that things were about to escalate. I swallowed hard, struggling to find my voice. “I wasn’t—”

“Yeah, you were,” she interrupted, rolling her eyes. “You’ve been all over social media, throwing shade like it’s nothing. I don’t play games, Treu. You can’t just act like this isn’t a thing.”

I crossed my arms, trying to exude confidence, but inside, I felt vulnerable. “I ain’t throwing shade. Just saying what I feel. Maybe if you didn’t act like you were better than everyone, we wouldn’t be having this convo.”

Star stepped closer, her expression challenging. “Better than everyone? Please. You think you can just come up in here and try to diss me? I ain’t scared of you.”

“And I ain’t scared of you, either!” I shot back, my voice louder than I intended. My heart raced, adrenaline pumping through my veins. “I’m just trying to focus on my music and my friends.”

She raised an eyebrow, seemingly amused by my response. “Then why you acting like a kid in a candy store, trying to avoid me? If you really feel that way, why not just say it to my face?”

I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, frustration mixing with a strange thrill. This was exactly what I didn’t want—another confrontation with Star, another chance for her to get under my skin.

“I don’t need to prove anything to you, Star,” I replied, trying to sound steady but aware of the slight tremor in my voice.

Star smirked, crossing her arms. “Alright then. Let’s keep it like that. But just know, if you ever wanna step to me, I’m right here.” She released my arm, taking a step back, but her eyes were still locked on mine.

Mello cleared her throat, breaking the tension. “Uh, we should probably get going,” she suggested, her voice a bit shaky.

I nodded, ready to escape this awkward moment. “Yeah, right.” I forced a smile, trying to keep things light, even though my heart was racing.

As we walked away, I could feel Star’s gaze on me, and I couldn’t help but steal a glance back. She was still watching, a smirk playing on her lips, and I felt a mix of anger and something else—something I couldn’t quite place.

“Treu, that was intense!” Mello said, once we were out of earshot. “You handled it like a boss!”

I shrugged, trying to play it cool. “Yeah, well, I ain’t about to back down from her. But she’s seriously getting on my nerves.”

“You sure about that? Seemed like there was a little spark there.” Mello teased, winking at me.

“Shut up,” I laughed, rolling my eyes. But deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t the last I’d see of Star.

Whatever was brewing between us, it was only getting started.
