Stacks of paperwork dominated my desk, a mountain of mindless tasks assigned by Yamamoto that kept me chained to my office. Soft light filtered through the paper screens, casting shadows over the neat rows of scrolls and reports. I glanced at the tactical maps hanging on the walls, mentally replaying battles long since fought, longing for something that didn't involve reassignments or protocol updates. The silence in my office was suffocating, pressing in on me like an unseen weight. I pushed a stray lock of hair behind my ear, trying to shake off the sense of monotony that seemed to have settled in my bones.
A knock interrupted the stillness. "Come in," I muttered, already sensing it was Hisagi.
Hisagi stepped inside, his expression serious, but I could catch the faintest twitch of amusement at the corners of his mouth. "Captain, there's an urgent report from the 37th District of Rukongai. Hollow activity detected. The squads out there are struggling."
Finally, something worth my attention. The prospect of a real fight had my blood pumping. I grabbed Sui-o, its gleam contrasting against the dark wood of my table it was leaning on.
"Let's move," I said, my voice firm as I followed him out of the office.

The 37th District was as grim as ever—dusty roads lined with worn wooden houses and crooked fences. The place felt abandoned, haunted by the occasional shadow moving behind boarded-up windows. The stillness in the air was unsettling, and the distant howls of the Hollows echoed ominously. The Hollows had chosen a perfect place to strike—remote, unprotected, and full of unsuspecting souls. As we arrived, I surveyed the scene. Hollows were emerging from the shadows in numbers I hadn't anticipated—large, grotesque forms that screamed with unholy rage. I could see my seated officers struggling against the relentless tide, their movements frantic as they fought to contain the situation.
"Stay focused!" I called out, my voice cutting through the chaos as I flash-stepped toward Hisagi's side. He was locked in a fierce duel with one particularly large Hollow, its claws slashing down toward him. "We need to regroup!"
Hisagi nodded, his blade slicing through the air as he deflected an attack. "There are too many of them!"
My heart raced as I assessed the chaotic scene. "They're far too organized," I muttered, narrowing my eyes. "They're not attacking randomly—they're strategic."
The large Hollow that had been leading the charge lunged at me. I shifted Sui-o into a bow and started to shunpo backwards , gaining distance, pulling an arrow of water energy from its string. My mind raced as I gauged the beast's toughness from a distance, aiming carefully before letting the arrow fly. It struck the Hollow, bursting on impact, but the creature only staggered slightly, anger flashing in its eyes.
"Damn it," I muttered, adjusting my stance as I prepared for its next move. The Hollow charged, its massive jaws snapping shut just inches from my shoulder. I ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding the attack as I sprang back to my feet, the ground shaking beneath me.The smaller hollows started to surround me and my squad as the larger hollow takes charge. Their masks hide their sinister motives.
"They're swarming..?" I thought to myself I channeled my energy and shouted "Bakudō #61: Rikujōkōrō" , binding one of the smaller Hollows with 6 arrows of blinding light in place before turning my attention back to the large one.
As it closed in again, I flash-stepped to the side,
"Bakudō #81. Dankū"
The claws of the large hollow was stopped in its tracks as my back faced it. The force of the attack resonated through my body, and I barely managed to maintain my footing, the exhaustion threatening to pull me down. I cursed under my breath, my muscles screaming in protest.
