"No! No! Will!!" Silver Fox screamed, his voice filled with shock and grief as he watched Black Bear gradually swallowed by the zombie horde.
The only response was the deafening sound of explosions, followed by the sight of limbs and flesh raining down from the sky.
The world seemed to fall silent. Nathan stood frozen, stunned by the scene before him. He had only ever seen such horror in movies, but living through it firsthand was something entirely different. There was no smug dismissal or casual chuckle like he had when watching those films. Now, all he felt was shock, deep and consuming.
Staring at where Black Bear had been engulfed by the zombies, Nathan felt an unbearable weight pressing down on his chest, as if a thousand-pound stone had settled there, preventing him from moving even an inch.
The sound of explosions continued to echo in his ears, reverberating endlessly. Nathan stood there, dumbfounded, gazing at the chaotic mass of zombies. The mercenary who had joked with him moments ago, the one who had handed him a weapon, the one who had given him the pocket watch... was gone.
"Damn it! Damn it! You filthy scum!" Silver Fox screamed, driven mad with rage. He raised his P90 submachine gun and fired wildly, his eyes burning with bloodlust.
Bang!
A zombie close to Nathan collapsed, its eyes wide open as it departed from this world, just a step away from devouring its prey.
The sound of the fallen zombie snapped Nathan back to reality, reminding him that he was still on the edge of hell. If he didn't escape soon, Black Bear's sacrifice would be in vain!
From a distance, Jessica held her rifle steady, her icy gaze scanning through the scope to monitor the zombies surrounding Nathan. Her usually indifferent eyes were slightly red, showing that despite her cold exterior, the loss of her teammate had affected her deeply.
Clutching the pocket watch tightly, Nathan bolted forward. Bullets whizzed past him, each one striking down a zombie trying to close in on him. Fifty meters... thirty meters... twenty meters...
The roar of the car's engine filled the air. Though it was just a few dozen meters, it felt like an eternity, with death chasing him at every step.
When Nathan finally reached the car, it was already moving. Desperately, he sprinted, trying to catch up. The vehicle wasn't just a car anymore; it was his only hope for survival.
Suddenly, the door of the speeding car swung open, and a slender, pale hand reached out. Without thinking, Nathan grabbed it, planting his feet on the side of the car and pulling himself into the backseat.
As soon as he was inside, the car's engine roared to life, accelerating away at full speed.
Bang! Bang! The sound of zombies being slammed against the car echoed alongside the roar of the engine.
"Thank... thank you!" Nathan gasped, his chest heaving. He was drenched in sweat, barely able to catch his breath.
Suddenly, the cold barrel of a gun was pressed against his forehead. Jessica's icy killing intent filled the car, dropping the temperature in an instant.
Nathan's eyes widened as he stared at the woman in front of him. The tension in the car was palpable, almost suffocating.
Python Jessica aimed her gun at Nathan and, with a calm and emotionless voice, said, "You better make sure... his sacrifice wasn't for nothing."

"Boss... we've made contact with the base! They're sending a helicopter to rescue us! It'll arrive in about an hour!" Silver Fox's voice was filled with elation.
"Damn it, the base finally responded? I thought those bastards had decided to let us die here!" Tiger's rough voice crackled over the radio.
After a brief pause, Lion's voice came through. "Head for that building up ahead. We'll take cover there."
"What? Boss, you know what that means, right? Once we're inside, if we get surrounded, we'll be trapped with no way out!" Silver Fox shouted, his voice frantic.
"Isn't that where we are now? Surrounded... with nowhere to run." Lion's sigh echoed through the radio. His words brought a heavy silence over everyone.
He was right. They were already surrounded by an endless sea of zombies, and the number was still growing.
"The more we kill, the more we gain!" Tiger's rough voice boomed through the radio. "I'll use my last bullet and grenade to drag a few of these bastards to hell with me!"
"Don't be so pessimistic. We just need to hold out for an hour!" Lion's voice came through again. "That building's rooftop looks perfect for a helicopter landing..."
The simple words rekindled a spark of hope in everyone.

The green-haired Mother zombie watched as the mercenaries rushed into a nearby building. A bloodthirsty glint flashed in its murky eyes, and it let out another ear-piercing roar, "Roar~ Roar!!!!"
"Screech... screech..."
The low, guttural moans slowly merged into a deafening chorus, like a tidal wave crashing down. It was a challenge, a provocation, as the zombies surged toward the building. The streets were filled with the undead, stretching as far as the eye could see.

"This is bad, boss! This place is impossible to defend! There are way too many staircases in this damned office building!" Silver Fox shouted, scanning the large interior of the building with a deep frown.
"Tiger, can you rig some explosives? We need to cut off as many access points as possible!" Lion shot a glance at Tiger, who was hefting his MG3 machine gun, a beast of a weapon that fired 200 rounds of 5.56mm bullets and had earned the nickname "The Buzz Saw" during WWII.
Just as Tiger prepared to rig the explosives, Silver Fox's voice came through, filled with frustration, "But... we don't have any more charges."
"What?" Hound's voice was laced with urgency as he turned to Silver Fox, shouting, "What do you mean? This building has at least seven or eight access points, not to mention those damned escalators! F**K!"
"All the explosives... were in the last car... with Black Bear..." Silver Fox's bitter voice trailed off, silencing everyone.
"Enough with the chatter! Move it! The zombies outside aren't going to wait for us to grieve!" Lion barked, breaking the tension. "Head for the roof! Move! We're too few, and there are too many access points. We can't hold the building, but we can defend the rooftop!"
"Fox, give me some grenades! I'll give them a little parting gift!" Tiger's eyes gleamed as he grabbed seven or eight grenades. He pulled out some small electronic gadgets from his pocket and split from the group on the sixth floor.
When the rest of the group reached the eighth floor, they could already see the tidal wave of zombies flooding into the lower levels. Nathan spotted the green-haired Mother zombie among them. The Mother's needle-like pupils locked onto him, its eyes brimming with bloodlust.
Click... the sound of a rifle being cocked.
Jessica raised her Barrett M95 with expert precision, her icy gaze narrowing as she peered through the scope, locking onto the Mother zombie in the horde below.
"Roar!" The Mother zombie let out a roar, almost as if taunting Jessica. Human and zombie locked eyes across the seven floors, staring each other down.
Bang! Jessica's finger pulled the trigger without hesitation. But in the split second before the bullet struck, the Mother zombie had vanished. The shot hit a regular zombie instead, sending its body flying. The Mother reappeared moments later, its eyes filled with murderous intent as it let out another furious roar, "Roar~ Roar!!!"
The horde of zombies seemed to surge with renewed frenzy, rushing toward the building from every direction. The previously slow-moving undead were now swarming up the emergency exits and escalators, filling the stairwells with a writhing mass of bodies.
Jessica swiftly reloaded, but when she aimed through the scope again, the Mother zombie had vanished into the sea of corpses below.
