The electronic frame flashed briefly in Nathan Yang's mind as he shook his head fiercely, trying to regain some clarity. After a long moment of staying calm, he finally managed to snap his brain out of its dazed state.
He pushed himself off the ground, though his legs were still a bit weak.
Glancing cautiously at the female zombie lying dead in a pool of blood not far away, Nathan carefully approached, wary of any sudden movements or surprises from the corpse.
Slowly, inch by inch, he pulled the fruit knife out of the body. Having a weapon in hand, at least, gave Nathan a small sense of security.
Suddenly, familiar knife techniques flooded his mind once again, along with a variety of coordinated movements. His hands, as if acting on their own, began to skillfully twirl the knife up and down. It was as though Nathan had been mastering these techniques for years—something that would undoubtedly become his lifeline for survival. The surge of joy momentarily made him forget his fear, and he began practicing various stances, steps, and knife techniques with the precision of someone who had rehearsed them countless times.
"Did I get transported into the game?" Nathan pondered after a long while, cooling down. If he was the protagonist of a game, then the sudden mastery of these formidable skills made sense. But then... he glanced at the dead body on the ground, muttering to himself, "What if it's just some kind of disease? Maybe this world is still normal?"
Nathan was hesitant to admit that he had arrived in a world overrun by zombies.
He quickly walked to the window and pulled back the curtain. The moment he saw the scene outside, all traces of wishful thinking vanished. What met his eyes was a devastated street—broken glass, collapsed buildings, scattered trees, and water still leaking from a broken pipe in the distance, drenching patches of seemingly vibrant green grass.
Several dilapidated cars were strewn across the road, and a few figures moved sluggishly in the distance. Nathan's first instinct was to call out to them, but... those figures moved slowly, and one of them was missing an arm, yet seemed completely unaffected by the pain...
At that moment, Nathan witnessed the most horrifying scene—an old zombie knelt on the ground, frantically digging into the chest of a corpse, stuffing handfuls of rotten flesh into its mouth as if it were a gourmet meal. Beside it, a little girl was also gnawing on the corpse's arm...
"F**k!" Nathan quickly yanked the curtain shut and leaned against the wall, his mind reeling. He gripped the fruit knife tightly, trying to find some sense of comfort amidst the waves of nausea threatening to overtake him.
"Stay calm... stay calm..." Nathan murmured to himself, his hand clutching his head. "First, I need to figure out where I am. Is this Europe? America? Is this even Earth? And what's my identity here..."
Nathan moved cautiously, quietly rummaging through drawers and shelves, looking for any documents that could reveal his location. With the fluent English that seemed to come from nowhere, Nathan was able to read everything.
It turned out he was in the Republic of Catwillow, in a place called Wildcat City!
"Wildcat City? Really? Might as well call it Raccoon City and be done with it!" Nathan muttered, continuing to gather information. He glanced at the clock on the wall—it was 3:25 in the afternoon...
"A parallel world?" Nathan thought, still filled with confusion. He continued searching, walking through several rooms until he found what seemed to be a study! A heavy desk stood before him. After confirming that the room was "clean," Nathan began ransacking the drawers...
