Laurence

“Have you thought about it?” Jade asked, one more time when we settled in our seats.

I glanced at her and shrugged. Imbis na magsalita ay tumingin na lang ako sa labas ng bintana. The weather is gloomy and the clouds are getting heavy.

I sighed and put my earphones back in my ear before Jade interrupted my moment. I was reading a book about how to deal with people, especially when you are doing a business.

Right, I came to a point where I have to read or watch about how to be socialize and that's how suck my social life is.

You have to outwit them, staying one step ahead without losing your cool.”

I read the phrase and my brows immediately furrowed. Outwit them to stay my cool? What does this book is implying?

I turn it back to first page and saw what this book offers. It what makes challenging people tick and how you can cleverly, creatively and adeptly defuse their hostility in the toughest situations.

I mentally nodded when I understand what the phrase means. It means that the phrase is about, what motivates difficult people and learning how to handle their anger or negativity in a smart, creative, and skillful way, especially in hard or tense situations.

Tsk! I don't know if makakatulong ba ito sa akin in the future, but might as well read it now while waiting for our professor.

I was in the middle of reading when I read a phrase and I felt something stab in my chest.

“All it takes is a few words spoken in anger for you to deeply hurt someone you care about.”

Parang bumalik ako sa kahapon ng mabasa ko iyon. The dinner four years ago is one of the worst I had with my family, when they bring up the topic about the old tradition my family had.

Flashback....

Nabalik ako sa reyalidad ng biglang tumikhim si Dad kaya napatigil ako sa paghiwa ng steak. I seat next to my sister, ate Imara while Dad seats in the middle of the table.

Mom seats on his right and kuya Philip insisted on sitting next to Mom along with his girlfriend, ate Cheshire. That's when I realized that Dad were looking at me, probably trying to gain my attention from earlier.

“As I was asking to Laurence, earlier. Do you know the Carlton family?” tanong ni Dad and agad naman akong umiling dahil wala akong idea.

Carlton? Karton? Who's that ba?

Nang mapansin nitong hindi ako nagbibiro ay tumikhim ulit siya saka pinunasan ang gilid ng labi, bago siya nagsalita.

“You are in the right age and you already know what that is mean—” before Dad could ever finished his words, ate Imara cut him off.

“Oh please Dad, 18 is to young to be married.” ate Imara said in her most disbelief tone.

I almost gasp when Dad threw his cutlery in the table. I saw in my peripheral view that ate Cheshire flinched at the sound and kuya Philip immediately held her shoulders to calm her down.
