As class ended we all filtered out into the hallways and out the doors, ready to be done with the monotony of the public education system. As we headed out Bella and I met up again, Hunter and Bella’s new friend Angela greeted each other while Mike and Camden seemed to be purposefully avoiding one another. Maybe they had some weird history I had no idea about. Either way we all headed out as a group, Camden the bounciest of all of us, as per usual. When we got into the parking lot Camden started jogging away without a word to us. I followed him with my eyes, seeing him run up to a girl our age that I didn’t recognize from school, and a little blonde boy who jumped into his arms.“Little brother?” I quirked my head to Hunter
“Yeah right,” Mike scoffed “That’s his kid.”
I whipped my head back around, watching as Camden held the little boy off the side of his hip while the little boy talked to him with big arm movements, and Cam reacted with his own over exaggerated expressions.
“Wait, isn’t he our age?” Bella frowned
“He’s a year older,” Bella’s other friend Jessica started explaining “Got held back cause he skipped so much school.”
“Wonder why.”
“Mike shut the hell up,” Hunter nudged the skinny boy in the side, making him blanch “It’s a big long story, he’ll tell you when he wants to.”
“It’s not like everyone else doesn’t know what happened.”
“Mike stop it,” Angela sighed
Hunter looked like she was about to verbally assault the blonde boy, but she kept herself quiet seeing Cam and the other girl walking over to us with the little boy. Considering Hunter had previously mentioned Camden’s crush on the blonde Cullen girl, I assumed she wasn’t his girlfriend. I didn’t think she was the little boy’s mom either, considering he didn’t look like either of them, but I wasn’t willing to make that assumption yet.
“Annie, this is Addy,” Camden walked up, bouncing the little boy on his waist “Addy that’s my new friend Annie, wanna say hi?” the little boy waved at me, hiding his face in Cam’s shoulder, I waved back with a soft smile, trying not to scare the kid “And this is Sasha. No she’s not his mother, no we’re not together, she just does school on the rez so she looks after Adam while I’m in school,” Camden listed off statements like he’d done it a hundred times, which he probably had
“Hey,” I nodded to the girl “This is my friend Bella, also new,” I tried to make sure Bella wasn’t just standing there awkwardly, cause I felt awkward enough for the two of us
“Oh you’re Jacobs friend,” Sasha pointed at the dark haired girl beside me
“Yeah,” Bella nodded “You know him?”
“Grown up together, close friend,” the girl smiled slyly, her smile reminded me a lot of Hunter’s smile, like they were cooler then everything else around them— which was pretty much true “He helps me take care of this kiddo sometimes,” Sasha reached over, scruffing up Addy’s hair, making him giggle
“Cute,” Bella smiled, I couldn’t help smiling with her, he was pretty adorable
Soon Bella and I had to go, we were meeting up with Charlie for dinner at the town diner since Charlie wasn’t grocery ready to have two teenage girls in his house yet. Despite our insisting Sasha and Hunter followed us to the diner, after Bella let it slip about the clothes shopping we would be doing. Camden had to go home and make dinner for Addy, so he said goodbye and drove home with him. Charlie was sitting in the diner waiting for us, sipping on a glass of water as we walked in.
