The first day I went back to school our entire grade was scheduled to go on a field trip to some kind of recycling, composting plant to learn about composting and recycling. I wasn’t all that into it, but if it meant I could maybe corner Jasper and talk to him, it was going to be worth it. Bella had the same thing in mind, she wanted to talk to Edward.

“Hey frankenstein,” Camden came up and wrapped an arm around my shoulder, giving me a light noogy “She lives!”

“Yeah and you’re gonna break her arm, get off,” Hunter pushed Cam off of me “Glad you’re back, the lack of intelligence in my life is staggering. Plus Eric’s been trying to corner me and ask me to prom, I need a shield.”

“Thanks,” I cringed

I laughed it off, walking with the two as he made our way onto the busses for the field trip. I was determined to run into Jasper, but I was glad to see Camden and Hunter again. Usually Cam would stop by to pick up Adam and have to run off, so it was nice seeing him in his usual state again. Near the end of the field trip Mr. Molina let us loose in one of the greenhouses so we could kind of just explore and have fun.

“I think I’m gonna throw up,” Bella mumbled, coming up behind me as we entered the green house

“It’s just vegetables,” I snickered

“No, Mike asked me to prom,” Bella blanched, I laughed, staring at her in disbelief “Yeah I know. I told him I’m going to Jacksonville that day.”

“Smooth,” I congratulated

“Eggshells, carrot tops, compost is cool!” Mr. Molina was talking to a group of kids “Now stuff that in there Eric. Very good, very good.”

I turned around, seeing Jasper standing off to the side, away from everyone else. I looked back, finding Cam and Hunter distracted looking at some flowers, and Bella busy talking to Edward. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is. I crossed the green house, walking up to Jasper, who stiffened as I walked up, as per usual.

“Jasper, I—” I paused, seeing something on the plastic wall behind the men “Holy shit,” I gasped, completely distracted

“What?” Jasper frowned, turning his head and bending down beside me

“It’s a Long horned orb weaver, a- a spider,” I smiled, pointing at the creepy crawly seemingly walking around in circles “If you focus your eyes properly you can see it’s weird web.”

“It’s got really long legs.”

“No those are it’s anteni,” I explained “The females actually have six spines,” I reached my hands out to try and pick it up. Within a second Jaspers hand snapped around my wrist, stopping me “Fuck, your hands are cold.”

“It’s nothing,” Jasper frowned, standing up and shoving his hands into his pockets “You shouldn’t touch spiders.”

“Macracantha aren’t poisonous,” I stood up with him. He stilled, looking back and forth between his two shoes “So are you gonna tell me why you came to my house?”

“I told you, I was worried about you.”

“Okay, and why you told me to never talk to you again?” Jasper’s eyes flicked up to me, and there was that flash of golden again “Why do your eyes do that?”

“Do what?”

“They— I swear every time I look at you, one second you have golden irises, the next they’re brown. It makes me feel like I’m seeing things.”

“You are,” Jasper grunted “And I told you to stop talking to me, because it’s not—” Jasper paused, turning and starting to walk away

“It’s not what?” I chased him out of the greenhouse, realizing he was making his way towards the bus
