----------

The day had finally come; it was October 16th, Xavier's birthday. I had accidentally discovered his date of birth on the Hunter's Association database, and as the day was fast approaching and he hadn't mentioned anything, I had to ask him to check whether it was accurate. After avoiding the question for a bit, he simply stated it was no big deal as his birthday was 'just like any other day', and revealed that in previous years, he'd just slept or read a book rather than celebrating. I was shocked to find out that not even Jeremiah knew when his birthday was, and so when I told him about my plan to give Xavier a day that he wouldn't forget, he was 100% on board.

First thing in the morning, I'd made my way to his apartment and given him a classy suit to wear, specially handpicked to match the elegant white satin dress I was wearing; I'd rarely used the phrase 'power couple' in my life, but if I had to use it to describe anyone, I'd use it to describe us. After that, we made our way to Philo where Jeremiah had helped me set up a beautiful surprise, decorating the place with flowers, star lights, polaroids of us from Twinkle Photobooth, and a bunch of Twinkle Toys plushies we'd won from our escapades on the claw machines to act as witnesses to our shared memories. I also presented Xavier with a personalised cake portraying a golden BunBun surrounded by an array of stars in a colourful galaxy. It had taken me a day and a half to bake it and finish the decoration, but thanks to Jeremiah's help, I had a little more time to focus on it. The greenhouse felt like the perfect place to start Xavier's birthday celebration, as he had given me flowers for the first time there. I still remembered the feeling of butterflies erupting in my stomach when our hands touched as he gave them to me.

With our sweet tooth satiated, I took him to a nearby flower field to visit Fluffy and plant the flower seeds I'd given him, and then we took the train to the nearby town of Moonfall Bay and walked the mountain road until we arrived at the Time Post Office. The Post Office had once temporarily closed down, however, when it reopened and cleared up its backlog of old letters, a letter he'd written many years ago somehow found its way to me. Although it was clear he hadn't written it with me in mind, I decided to take the time to write my own letters in response, creating a special stamp on the envelopes in the shape of a star with different coloured points; one was for the Xavier of the past - the one who had written the letter - and the other was for the present Xavier who I had grown to adore. Both detailed my thoughts and feelings towards him perfectly, as though I had poured my heart onto each page without concealing anything.

As time ticked on and night began to fall, the street lights flickered to life. We walked side by side through the town, each step making me feel as though time was being rewound. Whilst I took the time to admire the scenery illuminated in a soft glow, Xavier struggled to tear his gaze away from the mountains. I could only imagine what thoughts crossed his mind and what memories he was recalling - yet as much as I wondered, somehow I felt it was not the time to ask. He would tell me in his own time... today, I wanted us to create new memories.

After a few more steps, Xavier stopped in front of a nearby fountain and turned to face me. "We'll read this letter together after five years have passed," he spoke with a smile, tucking away the unopened envelopes in his jacket pocket. "And if the post office loses it, you owe me another letter. It has to be exactly the same - a birthday present five years from now."

"Don't worry, you'll get it." I couldn't help but giggle and shake my head. "And I guess October 16th isn't the same as any other day now, right?"

"I'm looking forward to spring, for the moment I get a letter from a mischievous fox." My face flushed red in response to the teasing nickname, his words sending a wave of warmth throughout my body. "And before the letter arrives, I'll wonder what she wrote for me every day... I can't forget it even if I tried."
