"I hope that this isn't the first time you've read those case files""Don't get your oddly shaped eyebrows in a twist" I reply, flicking to the next page of my file "I've done nothing but read and plan the past two days. I just won't have much chance to once we're in there"
Tadaomi huffs, but quiets his complaints as the scene outside the car becomes more rural. We left the city about an hour ago, and the drive has given me plenty of time to iron out the facts: so far no one has been able to so much as scratch this creature. There's barely any information on where it came from or why, and there's seemingly no evident reason why it wants to teach a class of failing junior high students.
So no weaknesses, mental or physical, that I can exploit whatsoever.
"Do i seriously have to wear this?" I complain, as I close the file and pull the shirt collar away from my neck.
"The government spent a lot of budget having that amended for you" Tadaomi reminds me. He's right, the pleated uniform skirt has secret pockets holding lightweight razor blades. The blazer sleeves have insets for S.A.A knives and there's even darts under my collar with S.A.A developed poison, supposedly made just for this unkillable monstrosity. It would be quicker to list which bits of clothing don't have secret weapons hidden in them
"You'd think with all that budget they'd make it a little more comfy...and maybe make the weapons a little more deadly" I take one of the rubber knives from the sleeve inset and watch as it droops.
"They do work, but only on him" Tadaomi insists "so put it away until you plan on using it"
"I don't see how much good a rubber knife can do" I argue "What am I supposed to do? Poke him to death?"
"These weapons are given to the other students too, they had to be safe for them to handle. Not everyone in there is trained like you" Tadaomi replies, and his statement brings me back to the thoughts I had gathered in the two days I've spent studying the case files.
"Why are the students being utilised? The government don't want anyone to know about this, so why tell a bunch of untrained junior high kids and expect them to be of any use?"
"These are desperate times" Tadaomi says, slowing the car down as we pass through a narrowing stretch of road "This creature could destroy the earth in little more than a year. Twenty four sets of hands are better than one. The Headmaster agreed to the proposal since the creature agreed not to harm any of the students or his agreement would be terminated"
"And we believe him?" I say dubiously "I don't see what a super-powered life form has to gain from any of this. Or why he's waiting so long to destroy the earth when he could probably do it right now"
"Perhaps these are questions you can ask him yourself" He answers as the car slows to a stop in front of an old looking building, in the centre of a dense forest.
"They teach kids in this dump?" I exclaim, observing the dirt track that leads to the wooden slated building. Trees surround the place, hiding mountainous terrain behind them. This is the kind of isolation you'd expect from a psychiatric facility, not a public school.
"I'd be nicer if I were you. You're one of those kids now" He says as he slams his door shut.
Tadaomi's words make me suddenly grateful for the life I've spent being homeschooled by the government. Even before I was a charge of the state, my father's military career meant we moved around a lot and my education was through the government. Being in a classroom of other students was going to be bad enough, but seeing this ramshackle place, I'm looking forward to it even less.
