I'm in a bad mood.

When you think about my circumstances, it's not surprising. I'm being blackmailed using my father's unsolved murder by my government caretakers. I have no way of getting that information other than to comply with their demands and those demands happen to be to eliminate an unkillable target.

And the target in question seems to be living up to his 'unkillable' description.

"Fuck" I curse under my breath, watching as Koro-sensei dodges my knife by the skin of his static, smiling teeth.

This marks my third failed assassination attempt since I started. At first, it wasn't that frustrating: of course i was going to fail at something that the worldwide military couldn't complete. I know i'm good at my job but there's a difference between confidence and ego, and I certainly didn't expect to waltz in here and take out the octopus within a day. But what i had figured was that each attempt would cause more damage than the last, yet here he stands: regenerating happily like the slimy bastard he is.

"Now, now" Koro sensei chides, his exuberant voice echoing into the empty classroom "there's no need for language, Matsuoka. You shouldn't let that become a habit"

"You shouldn't make a habit of blowing up parts of the solar system, but here we are. We don't always get what we want" I snap, unable to contain my frustration as I replace my knife roughly in my blazer sleeve.

"Don't get too down on yourself" he tries to encourage me "this was a very clever trap, poisoning my gelato ice cream and then ambushing me in my confusion. You even got here before class to wait for me. That's dedication!"

"I know you're trying to be...encouraging and play your role as Mr. Education" I tell him as I make my way to the door, since i'm no mood to hear him gloat "but it just comes off as patronising"

"Have you considered the possibility that your attempts might be more successful if you were to enlist the help of your classmates? You all share the same goal"

"No. We don't" i reply with a cold certainty.

They kill for the money the government promises them. I kill for the truth the government promises me. First it's Akabane talking to me like we're the same and now it's my target? I realise I'm remembering the words that nutcase readhead said to me and i wish I hadn't because i can feel my mood worsening already.

"What makes you say that, Matsuoka?" Koro-sensei continues as if I hadn't just tried to stab him in the face. It's not often I have to talk with a target for this long, certainly not after i've tried to kill them. Usually it works.

Man, i'm in a bad mood.

"What makes you- an entity capable of ending the world- want to entertain a class of junior high school students and play teacher?" I counter.

"Answering a question with a question. If i'm not mistaken, I'd say you were deflecting here, Matsuoka" he says as if it matters to him. He's intent on destroying earth, so why does he need to be in everyone's business?

"And you did the same. Seems we both have secrets, Sir"

"You're a prickly one, Miss Matsuoka" he announces.

"What makes you say that?" I parrot his words back to him, hoping he notices my glare.

"It's been a week since you arrived in my class. Not once have you tried to befriend your classmates. Or tried to engage in anything other than trying to kill me"

"It's my job"

"And is that all you are? Your job?" He asks, those unblinking eyes levelled on me where i stand at the door.
