Birthday Girl

the actress woke up to the soft light filtering through her curtains, the warmth of gracie still beside her. she stretched her arms, feeling a slight flutter in her chest. it was her birthday, something about today felt different. maybe it was the way gracie was curled up against her, or the way the room seemed quieter than usual.
she glanced over at her phone on the bedside table—messages were flooding in, but she ignored them, focusing on the peaceful moment. for now, everything was perfect.
gracie stirred next to her, eyes fluttering open. "happy birthday," she murmured, her voice soft, a little sleepy smile on her lips.
gabriella smiled, feeling a rush of warmth. "thank you"
"i have a surprise for you," gracie said. "wait here,"
gracie stood up, stretching a little before heading to the bathroom. "i'll be quick," she said with a smile, grabbing her toothbrush from her purse. gabriella stayed in bed for a moment, watching her go.
after a moment, gabriella sighed, pushing herself out of bed. she padded into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror, looking at her reflection. the faint smile she wore seemed foreign. she reached for her toothbrush, brushing her teeth mechanically, her thoughts drifting. it was her birthday, but all she could think about was how things were shifting, how her relationship with gracie seemed to be entering unfamiliar territory.
"you good?" gracie asked from the doorway, already finished. she leaned against the frame, her arms crossed, watching gabriella with a soft look.
gabriella spat out the toothpaste and rinsed her mouth, nodding. "yeah, just... thinking."
"about what?" gracie stepped closer, tucking a strand of hair behind gabriella's ear. her touch was gentle, familiar, yet somehow new.
gabriella turned to face her, her breath catching for a second. "just how much things have changed. i feel like everything's moving so fast." she reached for gracie's hand, holding it between her own.
gracie smiled softly. "you're handling it pretty well for someone turning twenty-seven." she leaned in, her lips brushing against gabriella's softly at first, then deeper. gabriella's heart raced as she returned the kiss, her hands slipping to gracie's waist, pulling her closer.
the kiss was slow and deliberate, each movement making gabriella's nerves tingle. gracie's hands rested on gabriella's hips, steadying them both as the kiss grew more intense. they pulled away just enough to catch their breaths, foreheads pressed together.
"happy birthday," gracie whispered, a small smile tugging at her lips as she reached into her bag. "i got you something." she pulled out a small, neatly wrapped box and handed it to gabriella.
gabriella blinked, surprised. "you didn't have to."
"i wanted to," gracie insisted, watching with a grin as gabriella carefully unwrapped the gift. inside was a delicate silver bracelet, simple yet elegant, with a small charm shaped like a star hanging from it.
"it's beautiful," gabriella whispered, her fingers tracing the charm.
"i know it's not much, but i wanted you to have something that reminded you of me." gracie's voice was soft, a little nervous.
gabriella smiled, slipping the bracelet onto her wrist. "it's perfect. thank you." she leaned in again, capturing gracie's lips in another kiss.
gracie laughed softly as they broke apart. "you're welcome, birthday girl," she teased, her fingers tracing light circles on gabriella's waist. "so, what's the plan for today? besides me spoiling you, obviously."
