Between The Lines
022she blinked a few times, the morning light filtering through the curtains as she registered the odd sensation on her skin. she glanced down to see gracie's hand gently tracing letters on her arm with a pen.
"what are you doing?" gabriella asked, her voice still thick with sleep.
gracie grinned, not looking up. "just signing my work."
gabriella raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at her lips. "your work?"
gracie finished the last letter of her name with a flourish, then capped the pen and held her arm out like an artist showing off a masterpiece. "my masterpiece."
gabriella chuckled, lifting her arm to inspect it. "seriously?"
"what? it's cute," gracie said, giving a playful shrug. "now everyone will know you're mine."
gabriella smiled, leaning over to kiss her softly on the forehead. "i like you,"
"i like you too," gracie said, snuggling closer.
they stayed like that for a moment, the quiet morning wrapping around them, before gabriella glanced at her phone. "we should probably get up. it's late."
gracie sighed dramatically, still clinging to her. "five more minutes."
"you always say that," gabriella laughed softly, brushing a strand of hair out of gracie's face.
"and it always works," gracie teased, her voice muffled against gabriella's shoulder.
"fine, five more minutes," gabriella agreed, resting her head back on the pillow.
gabriella was about to close her eyes again when her phone rang, the sharp sound cutting through the morning stillness. she didn't answer, but the noise stirred gracie, who blinked a few times.
"i'm gonna take a shower," gracie mumbled.
she sat up slowly, her movements soft and unhurried, before standing and reaching for her clothes scattered across the floor. gabriella watched quietly from the bed, her gaze following gracie as she bent to pick up her shirt, her jeans, the small, movements suddenly mesmerizing.
the room seemed even quieter as gabriella took it all in—the way gracie's hair fell messily over her shoulders, the way her body moved with a natural ease. gabriella smiled softly to herself, admiring the calm confidence gracie always carried, even in the simplest moments.
gracie caught her looking and smiled sleepily. "you okay?"
gabriella nodded, still watching as gracie slipped her shirt over her head, "yeah."
the singer chuckled softly and padded into the bathroom, leaving gabriella to stir around the bed. a faint smile crept onto gabriella's lips as she lay there, her mind replaying the night before, every moment still vivid. she glanced down at her arm, seeing the faint ink where gracie had written her name earlier—gracie. it made her heart flutter. without thinking, gabriella grabbed her phone and snapped a picture of it. might need this later, she thought with a smirk.
from the bathroom, she heard the sound of the shower turning on, followed by gracie's voice, muffled but clear enough. "ugh! why's the water so cold?"
gabriella couldn't help but laugh, the sound echoing softly through the room. "you'll survive," she called out, still grinning.
gracie's grumbling continued, but gabriella just smiled wider, sinking back into the pillows, letting the warmth of last night's memories wrap around her as the scene ended on a light note.
