It's about 6 pm on a fresh spring evening, I just got off from work, heading to the library to drop off a few books real quick on my way home. I enter the old building through the large, dark door and head to the counter, where a young man is sitting. I quickly hand over my books, noticing his clumsiness with the machine.

"Seems like a newbie here." I think to myself as I turn to look at some of the books other people had returned that needed to be sorted back by the end of the week.

After what felt like an eternity, I had already selected a new batch of books that needed scanning, the librarian finally hands me over my receipt with the returned and newly lend books listed on them.

I grab my books and just as I turn to head outside, I spot someone familiar sitting on a table in the corner, a few thick books, notes and pens around the table, their hazel eyes focused on the text in front of them.

I make my way to them and stop by their table, trying not to disturb too harshly. My glance drifts over the papers, and I recognize a few body parts on the complicated anatomical sketches around the table. I take my time to admire the detailed drawing when they turn their head to me.

"Oh sorry, I didn't notice you there."

"Hello, Zayne."

He straightens his back and takes his glasses off, facing me.

"How long have you been standing there?"

"Not too long. What are you doing here?" I slide over a chair and sit down next to him, placing my books in the corner of the table.

"I could ask you the same thing."

He glances over his work and flips a page back in his notebook.

"I'm working. My study is due to next week and I'm not even halfway done."

He looks to me. "Why are you here?"

I put my hand onto the stack of books.

"I returned some books and decided to get some new ones. What is your study about?"

"I'm not sure if you'll understand much. It's about..."

The time went on as he proceeded to tell me about his study in great detail. He started vaguely, but drifted of so deep into it he flipped all of his notes through, explaining each and every aspect of his work.

At some point I was so lost in his warm, calm voice vibrating through the silence of the library, I was not really paying attention to the meaning of his talking.

And he was right, I didn't understand anything.

Suddenly, the lights went off, leaving us in the dark, the only light source being the lamps outside on the streets and the frequently passing cars.

He stops talking and looks up to the ceiling then looks down at his watch.

"We got locked in."

I blink at him, confused.

"What?"

He jumps up, leaving me there, and runs to the exit.

"Zayne!" I rush after him, catching up just as he stands in front of the library doors, silently staring at the heavy wood.

"Are you okay?"

"I was hoping the librarian is still somewhere around, but there is no one here. It's past closing time, and he forgot to check for any left visitor. We're stuck here." He responds in a monotone voice.
