Alice's POV
On this particularly calm September night, Kat and I were walking down the street ranting to each other about our days. Talking about our professors, new people, etc., etc. I stopped. I stopped everything. I stopped walking, I stopped talking, I stopped breathing. "What's wrong? Alice, are you okay?" Kat asked me. "No, dude, I'm not okay. Do you see where we are right now? Do YOU SEE WHERE WE ARE?" I asked in a dramatic tone. "No, Alice, where are we? What's so special about this street? Why are you freaking out like this? You're not usually like this. Unless... wait a minute..." Kat started. I cut her off. "THIS IS MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, KAT. MADISON FUCKING SQUARE GARDEN." I started ranting to her about how it's only every musician's dream to play here, a speech she's probably heard from me a million times. She eventually cut me off with, "Okay, so do you want me to get a picture of you outside of the front or something?" I replied with, "A picture? Oh hell no, Kat. I'm going in. And you're coming with me." "Alice, there is no way I'm going in there! That's ridiculous! How would we even possibly get past the guards?" Kat said to me. " Please! Please please please please?" I begged like a child. "Come on Kat, a little adventure could never hurt, right? What's the worst they could do? Throw us out? So we get thrown out. There's no pain in trying." Kat finally gave in to my pleading.
I don't know how, but we got in. We snuck through the guards, and started walking through the corridor. On our way to the auditorium, we bumped into this really handsome guy. He said, "Hey girls, what are you doing here?" I improvised. "We work here. What are you doing here?" He replied with, "I'm in the band that's rehearsing tonight- do you guys really work here?" Trying to sound calm, I stated, "Yeah, we're the background dancers. I just didn't recognize you for a second there, haha." He said, "We don't have background dancers. Are you guys fans? How did you get in here?" I stopped improvising. It was time for the truth. Whoever this guy was, he had caught us in the act.
"Okay honestly, we don't work here. I convinced my friend here to try and sneak in with me because MSG is one place I've only dreamt of going to since I was a little girl. I'm really sorry. We'll go, could you just let us off with a warning this once?" His face lit up. He smiled and replied, "Who said you had to go? I do admire the fact that you were able to get past the guards. Pretty badass, if you ask me. A little bit on a creepy criminal type level, but still badass. So, just to get this straight, you aren't fans?" I was shocked that he didn't immediately have us removed. But I still had no idea who he was. Fans? He must be pretty popular if he's playing MSG. I kind of live under a rock when it comes to this kind of stuff, but he did look pretty familiar. So I said, "Fans of..? I'm really sorry, I have no idea who you are." He chuckled and said, "Well I hope I don't come off as cocky when I say this, but this is kind of rare. I'm Louis. I'm in a band called One Direction, and we're pretty well known." I said, "Yeah, no There's pretty much no way to say 'I'm a mega famous pop star and it's pretty rare that you don't recognize me' without sounding kind of cocky." We both laughed.
Kat spoke up, "Hey! I'm Kat by the way." I felt really bad. Louis and I had been talking this whole time and I had almost forgetten Kat was right by me. I blushed. Louis held out his hand and spoke to her with his adorable British accent, "Hi love. I'm Louis." She shook his hand. Me, being the awkward person I am, said, "So... where does this leave us?" Before he could reply, 4 other really cute guys walked up and asked Louis where he had been. They acknowledged us and Louis explained that we weren't fans, but just fans of MSG. "So how about we take you two on a tour? Kat, you can go with Harry, and, um, well you never told me your name, love," he addressed me. "Oh! I'm sorry, I'm Alice." "Well, that's a beautiful name, Alice. Well, as I was saying, Kat, you can go with Harry, and Alice, you can join me," Louis said. I blushed and Louis received smirks and 'ooohh's' from the other guys. He elbowed the curly haired one behind him when he said 'ooohhh'.
Kat and I had split up with Louis, and the guy she went with was named Harry. Louis was really funny. He would point out place's in MSG and decribe them in the worst ways. For example, he would point and say, "So, that's the stage, it's where people sing, and those are the seats where people sit, " and basicially just state the obvious about everything. I would laugh and go along and act intently and genuinely interested.
Eventually we stopped on the platform above the stage. I said, "Well Louis, you've given me the best possible tour of Madison Square Garden I could've hoped for. Now I've gotten to go to my dream place. Thank you, " and I laughed. "Well, you know, I am quite knowledgeable of the place. It was my pleasure, really. Being able to share my vast knowledge of the history of this magnificent arena," he joked sarcastically. "You never really did tell me why you admire this place so much, though. Would you like to share your story?" He asked with puppy dog eyes. "Well, when you put it that way, I guess I have to," I said with a smile. "Yay!'' he squealed like a child. "Well, since I was really young, I've been a singer and songwriter and musician, and I'm sure you know it's every musician's dream to play MSG. So yeah, I'm not really any different from any other singer," I told him. "C'mon, that can't be true! You write? I'm sure you're fantastic. You've got to show me something," he said. "Haha, hook me up with a Steinway grand (insanely expensive type of piano) and then we'll talk, Tomlinson," I said to him. "Well, if it's what you really want, then come on!" He said and started walking.
And then it hit me. I had just spent the past hour with a mega famous stranger, we were getting along like old friends, and he just asked me to play for him.
Wait a minute, what? Did I really just agree to play for him?
Author's note:
Sorry this chapter is so long and suckish! I had to put in a lot of dialogue and such. The next one will be a little shorter, promise.
