24. A dAngerous gAme

Hanna, Aria and Emily sat on the kitchen chairs of the Hastings house, impatiently waiting for both Spencer and Daniella to come down from Spencer's room, the two girls seventy two hours in Radley finally ended and they were back home, Ella had a mandatory teacher conference which she just couldn't skip, which is why she told Daniella to stay with Spencer till she gets back knowing Daniella won't go stay with Byron, she didn't want her daughter to be alone in the apartment.

"They know we're down here, right?" Hanna asked.

"Maybe they're just as nervous about seeing us as we are about seeing them" Emily said.

"Guys, they're the exact same Spencer and Dani that we saw last week" Aria assured her worried friends.

"No, the Spencer and Dani we saw in Radley were not the Spencer and Dani I know" Hanna said.

"That was before" Emily pointed out, a disturbed look on her face, her mother had informed her about the police finding two dead bodies in the exact spots Daniella and Spencer said they would be, but the police hadn't been able to identify the bodies as Jason or Toby's due to their faces being severely damaged.

"Em, we're not just here for them, we're here for you too" Hanna told her upset friend, while Emily was dealing with Toby's death, Hanna's heart hurt when she thought about Jason possibly being gone, when she had told Caleb that, he had flat out refused to listen to her, he refused to believe that there could even be a small possibility of Jason being dead.

"Do we talk about them?" Aria wondered, "Do we bring it up?".

"I don't want to say anything that could put them back there" Emily said.

"I know that the cops said they found Toby and Jason, but they sent those bodies to the state coroner for a reason, I mean, maybe there's hope" Hanna said, in her heart hoping Jason was still alive.

"You know how I feel about hope" Spencer said, appearing on top of the stairs, Daniella standing next to her, the two girls back to their old appearances, no longer looking like patients in Radley.

"It breeds eternal misery" Daniella finished, walking down the remaining stairs and over to her friends.

"We lost Toby and Jason a long time ago" Spencer said, following behind Daniella, "We just didn't know it", Spencer's eyes landed on all the food laid infront of her three friends, "Oh, you've got to love the Hastings, I just get released from a mental hospital, and they welcome my friends with tea and crumpets".

"What's the difference between a crumpet and an english muffin?" a curious Hanna asked.

"Hanna, does it matter?" Aria retorted.

"I'm just making conversation" Hanna defended.

"An english muffin is made out of dough and its baked" Daniella told Hanna, "And a crumpet is made out of batter, it's a griddle cake".

Both Hanna and Daniella looked at each other and smiled, the two girls had missed each other immensely, Daniella tried her best not to show the guilt on her face, because she knew if anyone could read her, it's Hanna, and as much as she wanted to tell her best friend everything, right now wasn't the time.
