Chapter Fifteen: Into the Dream Realm

As the swirling portal enveloped them, Kara felt a sudden rush of warmth followed by an eerie stillness. The sensation was akin to being weightless, suspended between two worlds. When the light faded, they found themselves standing in a vibrant landscape that shimmered with colors they had never seen before.

"Welcome to the Dream Realm," the ghostly figure's voice echoed, though he was nowhere to be seen. "Here, your subconscious guides you. Each of you will face your own dreams and fears. Only by confronting them will you gain the knowledge you seek."

The teens exchanged nervous glances, excitement mixing with apprehension.

"Okay, so how does this work?" Eli asked, his voice wavering slightly. "Do we just... wander around?"

"No, we need to find our own paths," Trey responded, his tone more determined. "Remember what the figure said. We have to confront our fears if we want to unlock the secrets of the house."

"Let's split up," Sasha suggested, her eyes gleaming with a mix of courage and curiosity. "We can meet back here after we've explored."

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Kara asked, feeling a pang of anxiety. "What if something happens?"

"We'll be fine. We'll stay in contact," Sasha reassured her, gripping a small pendant hanging around her neck. "I'll keep this close to help us find each other."

After a moment of hesitation, they all nodded in agreement, and the group separated into the kaleidoscopic expanse of the Dream Realm, each embarking on their individual journeys.

Kara's Journey

Kara wandered through a forest bathed in golden light, trees reaching towards the sky with branches that danced like fingers. However, as she walked deeper into the woods, the scenery shifted abruptly.

Suddenly, the forest darkened, and she found herself standing in front of an old, dilapidated house that looked eerily familiar.

"This can't be... my old home?" she whispered, her heart racing as memories flooded back. She hesitated at the threshold, feeling the weight of her past pressing down on her.

Facing the Past

As she stepped inside, the walls were adorned with faded photographs of her childhood—moments frozen in time that filled her with nostalgia and regret. She saw herself as a little girl, laughing with her mother, but the smile faded as her gaze shifted to the corner of the room where her mother's empty chair stood.

The atmosphere thickened with tension, and she felt the suffocating weight of her mother's absence. "Why did you leave me?" she called out, her voice echoing in the silence. "Why didn't you fight for me?"

At that moment, the air shimmered, and her mother appeared, looking as she did years ago—vibrant and full of life, yet her eyes were clouded with sorrow.

"I never wanted to leave you, Kara," her mother said softly, her voice trembling. "I was lost, trapped in a life I didn't choose. I thought I was protecting you."

Kara's emotions swirled within her, anger and sadness battling for dominance. "Protecting me? You abandoned me!" she shouted, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Face your anger, my dear. Only then can you let go," her mother replied, her voice a soothing melody.

Kara felt the tension building, and suddenly, the room around her began to shake. She realized that she had to confront her feelings rather than push them away. "I don't want to be angry anymore," she finally admitted, her voice breaking. "I just want to understand."
