Scene 1: A Disheveled Morning

Sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a golden hue over the room. Ben stirred, the remnants of last night's drinks fogging his mind. He squinted at the clock—past 10 AM. The weight of exhaustion clung to him, and he turned over, trying to bury his head in the pillow.

Suddenly, his business phone blared insistently, pulling him from the warmth of his cocoon. With a groan, he reached for it, barely registering the caller ID. It was his father, Patrick.

Ben: (yawning, voice gravelly) "What is it, Dad?"

Patrick: (voice firm) "Ben! Why is your personal phone off? I’ve been trying to reach you."

Ben rubbed his eyes, feeling the headache throb at his temples.

Ben: "I was out late… What’s going on?"

Patrick: "Have you seen the news? Theo’s become the CEO of Palmer Industries."

Ben sat up, the mention of Theo jolting him awake. He’d just confessed his feelings to Maisie and left in a hurry—now this?

Ben: (feigning disinterest) "Oh. That’s... nice."

He silently cheered for Theo, feeling a mix of pride and an inexplicable heaviness in his chest. Despite their history, he could not deny his cousin’s capabilities.

Patrick: (not buying the nonchalance) "Nice? Ben, this is huge! You should be happy for him. He’s family."

Ben sighed, knowing Patrick would not let this go.

Ben: "Of course I’m happy for him. Just… a lot on my mind right now."

Scene 2: The Weight of Expectations

Patrick’s tone softened, a hint of concern creeping in.

Patrick: "Look, I know things have been rocky between you and Theo, especially after everything that happened with us. But you need to forge your relationship again. You two were close once."

Ben bit his lip, guilt gnawing at him. He remembered the years spent with Theo, the laughter, the adventures. But everything changed after that kiss with Maisie, creating a rift he wasn’t sure how to mend.

Ben: "I know, Dad. But it’s complicated. Things were said, and…"

Patrick: "You don’t want to make the same mistakes I did. I lost my brother's trust, and look where that led us. Palmer Industries has many sub-branches, and their turnover is over a hundred times that of Palmer Retail. You can’t afford to be at odds with Theo now that he’s in charge."

Ben’s heart sank at the reminder of his father’s past mistakes. He couldn’t let his pride destroy what could be a beneficial partnership, both personally and professionally.

Ben: "Okay, I’ll try to reach out. I just need some time."

Patrick: "Good. This is a chance for you both. Theo will need your support, and it’ll benefit you as well. Just think about it."

As the call ended, Ben leaned back against the headboard, staring at the ceiling. His father’s words hung in the air, stirring a resolve within him. He couldn’t keep avoiding the inevitable.

Scene 3: Reflecting on Choices

With a newfound determination, Ben swung his legs off the bed and sat up, the morning light illuminating the room. He grabbed his phone and stared at it, contemplating his next move.

He needed to talk to Maisie again, too. After their conversation, he felt lighter but also burdened by unspoken feelings. He grabbed his laptop and opened a new message to her, but hesitated before typing.

What if she didn’t feel the same way? What if Theo’s return changed everything? He needed to face both of them—his cousin and the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about.

As he gathered his thoughts, Ben realized that this was the moment to step into the future he wanted, one that included both Theo and Maisie, even if it meant confronting the past.

Scene 4: Confronting Insecurities

Maisie lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, the remnants of the night swirling in her mind. Ben’s confession had stirred something deep within her, but now it felt like a weight pressing down on her chest. She could still picture his earnest eyes, his hesitant words. They lingered like an uninvited guest.

She knew how strict Julianne was with Ben, how the weight of expectations loomed over him. Ben was always in the spotlight, surrounded by glamorous events and beautiful women. He could have anyone he wanted, and that realization clawed at her insecurities.

Maisie pushed herself up and swung her legs off the bed, pacing the small confines of her studio apartment. She pulled her hair into a messy bun, trying to shake off the lingering doubts. Ben was not just handsome; he was a man with ambition, a leader. Did she really belong in his world?

Scene 5: A Glimmer of Excitement

As she grabbed her phone, her thumb brushed against the Twitter icon, curiosity piquing her interest. She scrolled through her feed, and her heart skipped when she saw the headline: “Theo Palmer Appointed CEO of Palmer Industries.”

Excitement bubbled within her, momentarily pushing aside her insecurities. She had always admired Theo’s tenacity and brilliance. It felt surreal to think that both her best friends were now CEOs of their respective companies.

Seizing the moment, she opened a message to Ben, her fingers flying across the screen.

Maisie: Hey! I just saw the news about Theo! Can you believe it? I’m so proud of both you and him! You guys are really making waves in the business world!

She hesitated for a moment, her heart racing as she contemplated hitting send. Would he think she was overstepping? But the thrill of the moment propelled her forward. She pressed the button and watched the message disappear into the ether, hoping it would bridge the distance that had formed between them.

Scene 6: Memories of a Wedding

As she waited for Ben’s reply, her mind drifted back to the last time she had seen Theo—at Caroline’s wedding. The day had been beautiful, filled with laughter, dancing, and joy. But the moment that stood out the most was when Theo had caught her gaze from across the room.

He had been so handsome in his fitted suit, his dark hair perfectly styled, and his smile had sent her heart racing. They had shared a dance, but the connection felt different, charged with something she couldn’t quite place.

But afterward, he had pulled away, avoiding her at every turn, and she never understood why. It felt like they had lost something precious, and she missed their friendship more than she could express.

As the memories washed over her, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed. Theo had always been there, their bond as solid as steel. Why was it now that he felt so distant?

Her phone buzzed, interrupting her thoughts. It was a message from Ben. Her heart raced as she opened it.
