Fourth.
The temptation to fall into an open manhole and disappear forever was there. It would have been much better than telling my brother that I had a bad grade in physics. The third in a row.
The disappointed look of Professor Natt sitting on her chair pierced my skull. I sighed, returning to stare at the test we had just returned.
"How did it go?" asked Mark, my best friend, stretching his neck and peeking at my paper. I saw him smiling sadly and looking at me worried.
"I'm sorry, man" he patted me on the back and I made a face in response. The professor's chair crept loudly against the floor, making us all turn in her direction with our heart in our throats.
"I suggest to those of you who got a bad grade to start studying. I would hate to have to talk to your parents privately" she froze us with a fake apologising tone, looking me directly in the eyes.
I looked down, already imagining Dunk scolding me for an hour and a half. I took my head in my hands, trying to calm the growing headache.
Professor Natt began to walk between the desks to take the texts back, making me fear for my safety. "Gemini, great job" she said walking beside the most hateful face I had to put up with on a daily basis.
I stopped myself from throwing up seeing him smile satisfied for the thousandth praise from Professor Natt. He was her favorite student, as well as the most toady.
His face screamed "Admire and envy, I am better than you," and it made me want to slap him.
As if that was not enough, for an unknown reason, he did not seem to like me either.
"Fourth, the test" I jumped when I realized that I had the professor next to me, who was looking at me with hawk eyes. "Sorry" I murmured returning the paper.
"This is the third F in a row, Fourth. As much as it's said that the three is a lucky number, know that it's not so" after telling me this she continued to go between the desks to take the other papers.
Feeling watched I looked around, leaning against the back of the chair.
Nobody was paying attention to me, fortunately. When I went back with my eyes on the bench to think about how to escape from the country in order not to face Dunk, I met eyes with Gemini.
I could hear his voice in my head telling me that even if I tried hard, I would have never reach him. I made a face, feeling annoyed, and turned my back on him, crossing my arms and sulking.
When the bell finally rang twenty minutes later, I got up from my desk, ready to go home to hear Dunk's lecture.
I was about to leave the classroom with my best friend, who was telling me how his mother annoyed him for every single thing.
I saw from the corner of my eye a tall figure leaning behind me. "You were worse than I thought", I turned my head slightly and gave a look to Gemini, who was avoiding my gaze and staring at his watch.
"Are you talking to me?" I asked him abruptly, looking him up and down. He was wearing an oversized sweatshirt and a pair of green jumpsuit pants. He looks like an highlighter. Actually, more like a cucumber.
"Do you know if anyone else has gotten an F in physics ?" he asked, looking down at me with an air of superiority. I spit a half laugh turning towards him.
"What's your problem? Go back to being Natt's slave, instead of annoying me" I replied coddly, finally leaving the class.
"You were always touchy, but I didn't think you were that much" I heard him scream behind me, making me smoke with anger. He chose the wrong day to bother me.
