"Lucas!"

I turn around and I spot Ink straight away. I smile as I walk over.

"You're looking better" he tells me

I nod as I let out a breath

"I guess, I mean I'm trying all I can to change the way things are, but Pope is relentless" I say as I push my hand through my hair and place a hand on the fence separating us.

It's quite

"I can't stand seeing you like this" Ink says sincerely

The words get stuck in my mouth for a minute, not expecting him to care

"I'll be fine" I say trying to brush him off "I've done it for two months, what's the rest of my sentence?" I shrug

"I'm going to get you out of here" he says as he shakes his head.

He moves his hand and, whether he intends it or not, we both end up with some of our fingers touching through the holes in the fence.

My breath catches in my mouth.

"You don't have to worry about me, you came this far in order to help your brother. Don't let me take you away from that" I say

He moves closer as he leans in

"It was never supposed to be breaking him out, I was supposed to be in here incase things didn't work out on the legal side- it's strange to say it but I didn't think we'd get to this. I had been planning for this for months, but I didn't actually think he would be getting executed" he says

I stand straighter as I use our touching fingers to rub my finger over his, trying to comfort him

"It's scary, but you're doing more then anyone else had ever done for him" I say "no matter what happens, Lincoln knows how good of a brother you are and that's what matters" I say

He wipes his hand over his face, clearly not believing what I'm saying but not disagreeing out loud.

"I know what it's like to feel helpless when you see your sibling suffering." I say "it takes strength to stand up and do something about the impossible. Even if it means getting yourself put into prison- we're more alike then you think" I say with a small smile

Suddenly, he moves his fingers to interlace with mine through the fence.

"That's why I'm going to get you out of here with Lincoln- neither of you deserve this" he says

I look at him with a newfound respect. I always knew that Ink was different- maybe it was because I knew he wasn't meant to be here, he wasn't a criminal like everyone else, or maybe it was because he was the first person to speak to me like a human in here and not a slab of meat. Either way the ink I had previously being wiping off my skin was starting to stain and it was creating a tattoo on my heart in the lines of Michael's name.

"You can't add more people the necessary to the escape. I understand if you can only have the two of you-"

"I'm getting you out of here- I will" he says and I look at him, finally allowing myself to believe him.

"The longer they're in there, the sooner they're going to find it" Abruzzi says suddenly.

His words are the shock I needed to realise that I was holding Inks hand. I go to move away from the fence, certain that Ink wouldn't want anyone thinking that we were getting close, but instead of doing the same, Ink simply keeps standing where he is and makes sure that our hands are firmly together.

He doesn't mention it as he speaks to Abruzzi but I feel his thumb slide across my knuckles, reassuringly

"We've got to get back in there" Ink says as his eyes turn to the group of people who are working on PI instead of us.

"Hold on a second, when did we get booted?" I ask

Ink turns his attention to Abruzzi "when this dipshit got beat down the food chain"

I look between the two for an explanation, but neither of them give me one as they just stare intensely at each other

"Look, I need to get out of here fast. I ain't got many friends in here anymore. The only way that I can get you guys back in PI is if I give my benefactor Fibonacci." He pleads Ink

I simply stand behind the fence listening as they talk

"See this is not a me versus you thing anymore- this is an us thing" he says "it's us for the escape"

"This is about you getting good with the gang again, isn't it?" Ink says as he looks at him expressionlessly

"This ain't about the gang anymore, that life's behind me- they clipped my wings putting me in here. If we give Falzone Fibonacci he will give us anything.... Including that special room" he says as he looks over at it.

Ink just looks past him to the room in question until Abruzzi walks away

"Think about it, Fish" he says

I watch as Abruzzi leaves and Ink just stands there. He seems to have a thinking face on as he weighs up his options.

"This Fibonacci guy" I question "you're protecting him because he's a good guy I'm guessing" I ask

He looks over to me before his hard expression turns into a softer look

"Yes, he's caught in the middle of a gang altercation and he had no way to escape it in the first place" he says

I nod, finally starting to understand what's going on

"You going to give him up?" I ask as I rest my head against the fence and look at him

"If it means getting Lincoln and you out of here- I will probably have to" he says

Before I can say anything he gives my hand a squeeze, one last time, before he unravels our fingers and walks away.
