Joeys POV

'Dad, I know how important it is, you've told me like a million times, but those girls they're just not-'

'What? They're not what Joey? They aren't pretty enough? Smart enough? Tell me what is so bad about all of them, because that was the 36th girl I have brought to you and still we are standing here having the same conversation!'

'I don't want-'

'What you want is not important Joey! What's important is that you pick a girl whether you like her or not for the sake of this Kingdom.'

I knew what I wanted to say, I knew I should have said that that's what he did with mom 'marry for the sake of the kingdom', but I know deep down that's going too far.

'I know it's frustrating-'

'Alright'

'What?'

'The next girl you bring me...I'll marry her'

I regretted the words the second they left my lips. My fathers face lit up with a flush excitement and relief, he believed me, which was good enough for now.

'I'm so proud of you Joey, but enough of this today, I'll have a servant collect you when dinner is ready, don't forget to wash up.'

He gave me a weak smile then turned and walked towards the large oak doors, closing them behind him. My room was quiet for once, there is usually a maid cleaning dusting or sweeping, but on this rare occasion I was completely alone.

I didn't realise I had just been standing here like a lump until the strong smell of some kind of meat filled the room. With my mouth watering a rushed over to my wash room and began to clean up. I pulled my shirt over my head and tossed it on floor beside the bath, a maid will tidy up during dinner anyway.

I cupped my hands together and splashed my face with gushes of fresh water, running my fingers through my hair and shivering at the sudden coldness. Once I was satisfied I walked back into my room and headed for the draws to pick out a clean shirt.

As I was reaching down I heard someone fumbling with my door handle.

'Oh gosh I- I didn't...I'm so sorry Joey... I mean sir or our majesty erm-'

I shot up and he began to turn away and look at the floor, his cheeks had turned a dark shade of red, while he was still trying to get out a full sentence .

'How dare you enter my room without knocking, what if I was naked or something?'

He paused for a second and then slowly raised his head looking from my bare chest to my face a few times and then he spoke again.

'I- I did knock your majesty, you didn't answer so I just, I'm sorry I know I shouldn't have'

He froze once again this time staring directly into my eyes, he was so nervous I could practically hear his heart beat echoing off the stone walls. He seemed so innocent standing there, so vulnerable, so...adorable?

'Dinner'

'What?'

I snapped out of my trance realising how stupid we both look standing here staring at each other in silence.

'Dinner is served'

'Oh, I'll be right down'

He walked down the long hall way and I couldn't help but feel something, I don't know what is was, but I like it.
