The lake was teardrop-silver in colour and it was shaped like a perfectly flat disc of metal. No sound rang out from the shimmering emptiness of space around it. Monastery quiet, it was lined with pine trees and the whiff of mint wafted up to the two boys.
Joey and Daniel had decided to make their way to its decanter clear shore. The idyllic scene took their breath away. Unruffled by wind or rain, it was still and restful. The only sounds were the bumbling of bees and the heavy echo of a raven crawking.
Out on the lake, flopping trout were slapping the surface. They were hoping to catch one of the flies that buzzed about. The heaven-leaking light added a golden tint to the face of the lake and it was paradise.
The two boys lay entwined a few feet from the gorgeous lake. Joey with his back on the grass and his head resting on his left arm behind his head. Daniel with his face rest upon Joeys chest and both arms wrapped snugly around his waste.
They had removed their shoes so they could feel the silky touch of the fresh grass against their feet. Moments such as this you would imagine could exist only in fairytales.
The area they were in was secluded and private, not too many people strayed this far from the village which meant they could be alone, they could be themselves.
Joey lifted his head slightly in order to look down at Daniel, he wanted to take his image in and keep the memory with him forever.
He wasn't a male model but he should have been. The lush, dark brown hair he barely needed to groom, hovered over his resting eyes. Hair so soft and beautiful it would surly send anyone, regardless of gender, crazy.
The chiselled nose he sported complemented his prominent cheekbones remarkably. Handsome was an understatement, Joey thought. He was practically drooling over the mere sight of him.
Joey had always thought that Daniels best feature was his entrancing, emerald green eyes. Sloe shaped, they could shine as bright as the evening stars when they were lit with joy. At other times, they would darken to an almost brown colour when he was anxious or angry. However being the kind hearted person he was, he rarely got to that point.
Joey brushed Daniels hair out of his eyes to observe his facial features further. He looked kinder in his sleep, almost like a child. His skin was pale and his lips full, light breaths escaped his nose at a slow rhythmic pace.
He watched his chest rise and fall like the sun did every morning and night, he thought about the selfishness of it all. How the sun could rise and fall without fail, never stopping, but eventually people take their last breaths. Why does the sun get to live forever, while everything else grows and dies.
His eyebrows knitted together at the thought and he smoothed his fingers through Daniels hair, the locks flowing like waves through his slightly parted fingers. A smile appeared on Daniels face showing that at least whatever he's dreaming about is distracting him from the horrors of the real world.
Joey didn't know how this was all going to work out, he had to marry a princess. That's just how it's always been. Maybe it didn't matter who he married as long as it was a living breathing person. Not that it really mattered his dad was never going to let him marry a guy. The only option that would really work would be to get Catherine on their side and fake marry her.
'What are you thinking about?'
Daniel looked up at Joey with tired, questioning eyes.
