Being human had proven to be the most difficult mission that Cas had ever faced. There were too many choices. As an angel, he had never had to worry about whether he would work at McDonalds or Burger King. Or whether he would have oatmeal or cheerios. And he certainly never had to worry about romance. He never had time to.
Now that the gates o hell had been closed, Cas, Sam, and Dean were free. Free from the life that had bound them for so long. But now Cas was faced with a choice. This girl that had been introduced to him by Sam and Dean, Charlie, was always hitting on him. This was significant, because Charlie did not usually deal with guys. But Cas felt nothing for her, however, whenever he looked at Dean....well....
One day, after he had clocked out from a late night at work, Dean drove by in his black 67' impala to pick him up, just like every night, but tonight was different. Dean's hair was combed and he was in a tux, not typical everyday wear for a mechanic like Dean.
"Um, Dean, if you have a date, I can walk back to the bunker, or I can call Sam."
" No, Cas. Get in please." Dean sounded overly affectionate saying this, which made Cas' heart flutter, but it also made him uneasy. What if he was wrong? What if Dean was just going to drop him off at the bunker and take out a girl from work? "Now, Cas." Dean's voice was firm but still affectionate. It didn't take long for Cas to realize that Dean was not headed for the bunker. Instead, he headed for the city park, the place Cas had found was his favorite in this new world. Dean had to be up to something, now.
"Dean, why are we -" Dean stopped the impala and reached over to run his fingers through Cas' hair. Yet another decision arose. Should he follow his heart, which said to stay, or his instinct, which told him to go? This was too good for him to pass up, so he stepped it up. He grabbed Deans hand and held it, not too tightly, but firmly, still. A smile spread across Deans face and his green eyes twinkled. He had wanted this for just as long as Cas had.
"Cas, I have to admit something to you." A flash of worry passed through Dean's eyes. This lend Cas to gently squeeze Dean's hand.
"Anything, Dean. Anything at all." Cas smiled gently and move closer to Dean.
"I think I've liked you for a long time. I was just scared, I thought you liked Charlie."
"Charlie is a good friend, Dean. But I do not see an affectionate bond forming the two of us. I never have"Dean smiled as Cas' lips moved, and he realized just how perfect this simple motion was when it was performed by Cas. Dean reached out and gently traced the outline of Cas's lips with his free hand. Cas cueled his free fingers around Dean's and leaned in. The kiss only lasted a few moments before there was a knock on the car window.
Dean beacame instantly ferious. "I don't know who you are, but I swear to God if you break that window I will kill you, your children, and your grandchildren!!!"
" Dean, stop." Dean turned around as Cas opened his door and got out. Charlie was there, now sitting on a bench, crying, with Cas kneeling down in front of her.
"Charlie, I'm sorry," Cas began, but charlie interrupted, startlingly calmly.
"It's fine, Cas. I've known about yours and Dean's feeling for each other for a while. I had just hoped a little bit that maybe I had misinterpreted."
"I hat this! I can never tell if I'm doing the right thing! I dont even ever know what color shirt to wear!"
"Cas, you should always do what feels right to you. You don't choose who you love, your heart does that for you. I can't change it, and I don't want to. That is part of loving someone, you want whatever is best for them, even if it doesn't neccisarily involve you, even if its not the outcome that you had hoped for. If you are happy with dean, then I am going to be happy, too."
"Thanks, Charlie. And just so you know, you are just as important to me as dean is, just in a different way. I love you, but more like, a little sister type love."
"I like that, too." Charlie beamed at Cas, as he stood up and hugged her tightly.~Hey guys. Im kinda new to this fan fiction deal, so please don't hate, however, I would appreciate constructive criticism. Thanks, guys -CharlieDean~
