The Camera

You sift through a cardboard box filled with old trinkets when your hand brushes against something solid and cool. Curious, you pull it out—an old, battered camera, the edges worn down from years of use. A layer of dust covers it, but beneath it, the familiar matte black body shines faintly in the sunlight.

“Wow, this thing’s ancient,” you say, half-laughing as you blow the dust off the lens. You turn to Taehyung, who’s folding clothes across the room, raising an eyebrow when he notices what you’ve found.

“Oh, that,” he chuckles, his voice warm with recognition. “My old camera. I haven’t seen that in forever.”

You spin it in your hands, feeling the weight of it. “Didn’t you used to carry this everywhere?”

Taehyung strolls over, a small grin tugging at the corner of his lips as he looks at the camera. “Yeah, I did. I was convinced I’d be some avant-garde photographer, capturing the world’s beauty through gritty black-and-white photos.”

You smile, recalling the days when Taehyung had been inseparable from this camera, always snapping photos of anything that caught his eye. “I remember you taking pictures of literally everything—like that time you spent an hour trying to photograph a leaf because of the way the sunlight hit it.”

He laughs, leaning against the dresser with a nostalgic sigh. “I was a bit... obsessed. I even had that whole ‘artsy’ phase where I thought close-ups of random stuff were profound.”

You smirk and press the power button, but nothing happens. “Battery’s dead,” you remark, glancing at him.

“Figures,” Taehyung says, his voice soft as his gaze lingers on the camera. “I haven’t touched it in years.”

You tilt your head, surprised. “Why’d you stop using it? You were so into photography back then.”

Taehyung shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck as he stares out the window, his mind seemingly traveling back to a different time. “I don’t know... I guess I just moved on to other things—music, painting, trying new stuff. Photography was fun, but I wasn’t as passionate about it as I thought I was.”

You nod, understanding but still holding the camera out toward him. “You should take it with you to the new place. It’s got so many memories attached to it.”

He looks at the camera in your hands and shakes his head with a soft laugh. “Nah, it’s too old. Besides, I’ve got better equipment now. This thing’s practically a relic.”

“But it’s special,” you insist, your fingers tracing the worn edges of the camera. “You spent so much time with it. It’s like... a part of you.”

Taehyung’s gaze softens as he watches you, the corners of his mouth twitching upward. He hesitates for a moment before speaking. “You know what? Why don’t you keep it?”

You blink in surprise. “Me?”

He nods, stepping closer. “Yeah. You seem more attached to it than I am now. Maybe it’ll inspire you to try something new. Or at least it can be a reminder of all those ridiculous photoshoots we did.”

You look down at the camera, a wave of nostalgia washing over you. “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely,” Taehyung says, ruffling your hair with a grin. “Consider it a gift. Who knows, maybe you’ll get into photography too—or you can just carry it around to remind you of your cool, artsy older brother.”

You chuckle, cradling the camera in your hands as if it were a precious relic. “Thanks, Tae. I’ll take good care of it.”

Taehyung’s expression softens, and for a moment, the teasing façade drops. “I know you will. It’s in good hands.” He watches you carefully stow the camera away, his eyes filled with a quiet pride and affection.

“Plus,” he adds, his grin returning, “it’ll give you something to show off when you visit me in the new apartment. Just make sure to take some ‘deep and meaningful’ bug pictures for old times’ sake.”

You both burst into laughter, the room filled with the familiar warmth of shared memories. As you help Taehyung pack the last of his things, the old camera sits nearby—a small but meaningful piece of your brother’s past, now passed on to you.
