There will be no more overnight stays at Remus' for Evelyn. It's very sad, and she misses it terribly. They almost never see each other outside his room, and when they do, they only talk briefly and professionally. They never touch unless they're inside the room with the door carefully locked. At first, they think they'll only meet twice a week, but it proves too difficult, so they see each other two weekday evenings plus weekends. Then maybe more sometimes. Or often. They just can't stay away from each other.
The sun is getting warmer, and the snow is melting. The trees are budding, and the first spring flowers are starting to bloom. The atmosphere around FUTT is becoming more intense. There's a rush and a silent hysteria among all the seventh-year students. The air feels pressured and heavy, like a boiling cauldron that could overflow at any moment.
The pleasant spring sun tempts Evelyn and Remus to take a short walk, even though they don't really want to be seen together. They walk down to the lake and sit by a tree, enjoying the few gentle rays of spring with their eyes closed.
Evelyn leans her head on Remus' shoulder and sighs.
"You have no idea what a terrible week it's been. So much homework, and Snape gave us an ENDLESS essay assignment." She groans at the thought of all the work ahead of her.
"Poor you, but it's almost over now, just a little over two months left! You've got this. You're smart, hardworking, and determined. It'll be fine," says Remus encouragingly, but Evelyn just whines.
Remus rummages through his robes and pulls out a chocolate bar.
"Have some chocolate, it'll make you feel better!" he offers. Evelyn's eyes light up; chocolate is a shared passion they have.
Suddenly, something rustles nearby, probably a small bird. Evelyn takes a piece of chocolate and lets it melt on her tongue, savoring it fully.
"Mmmmmm... there's nothing better than chocolate."
"Are you sure about that?" Remus says with a playful glint in his eye. He glances around, then quickly leans in toward Evelyn and kisses her gently. The kiss lasts only a few seconds, but it still sends a spark through her body.
Remus looked at her with an intense gaze that made her heart race. Before she could say anything, he took her hand, stood up from where they sat, and stepped closer, pulling her into a passionate kiss. It was as if all the times they had tried to hold back exploded at once.
Evelyn felt her back pressed against a tree as Remus held her gently but firmly, his breath heavy and uneven against her neck. "We shouldn't be doing this..." he whispered, but there was no hesitation in his actions.
"I know," Evelyn replied breathlessly, but their bodies seemed to have decided otherwise. Every touch was filled with longing, something they had both tried to suppress for so long.
Their kisses grew more desperate, as if they couldn't get enough of each other. Evelyn felt her hands searching for his, holding on to each other, determined to forget the world outside, if only for a moment. Remus pressed her closer, and she could feel the warmth of his body through their clothes.
After a while, they pulled away from each other, both panting, their hearts beating in sync. They stood there in silence for a moment, surrounded by the sheltering branches of the trees, their foreheads resting against each other.
"We can't stay away from each other, can we?" Evelyn said with a smile that revealed both love and resignation.
Remus didn't respond, but his gaze said everything. They were caught in something they couldn't control, something stronger than the rules they had set for themselves. It wasn't just their physical closeness that united them, but something deeper, something more complicated.
"Come," he finally said, his voice softer now, "we need to get back before someone sees us."
Evelyn nodded and took his hand.
"Should we go up to your room instead?" Evelyn asked worriedly. She was afraid someone would see them, and in the room, they wouldn't have to be cautious. There, they could kiss as much as they wanted. Remus took another bite of chocolate, helped Evelyn up, and they began walking toward the castle.
Suddenly, someone jumped out from the bushes in front of them.
"I SAW YOU!" yelled Edward. Evelyn could swear her heart stopped, and her insides twisted into a tight knot. She went cold and couldn't breathe. Remus stood frozen beside her.
"I saw you kissing!" Edward screamed triumphantly.
"Just wait until Professor Dumbledore and everyone else hears about this..." he said slyly and turned to run toward the school.
"EDWARD! PLEASE, NO!!!" Evelyn shouted after him, but Edward only laughed and disappeared. Remus and Evelyn stood there, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Their whole world had suddenly turned upside down and crashed completely. This wouldn't end well.
Evelyn felt her legs almost give out beneath her. Panic grew inside her as she stared after Edward, who was now far away. "What are we going to do?" she whispered in fear, her eyes darting between Remus and the school looming in the distance.
Remus sighed heavily and ran his hand through his hair. His face was tense, but behind the calm exterior, Evelyn could see the worry eating away at him. "I don't know," he replied quietly. "But we need to talk to Dumbledore before Edward does. If we tell him first... maybe there's a chance we can explain."
Evelyn shook her head. "Explain what? That we broke the rules, again and again? That we can't stay away from each other even though we know it's wrong?" Her voice trembled, and she felt tears burning behind her eyelids.
Remus took a deep breath and held her hands in his. "We did wrong, yes. But I'm not going to let Edward ruin everything for us. We deserve a chance to explain our side of the story." His voice was calmer now, but his determination was clear.
Evelyn stared into his eyes and felt a certain sense of security in his presence, despite the chaos around them. "Okay," she whispered at last. "We'll go to Dumbledore. But... what happens then?"
Remus looked at her seriously. "I don't know, Evelyn."
