Victoria's POV:
I wiped my hands on my jeans before grabbing my folder. The last of the items were finally put away and inventoried. Negan and his crew had a successful haul today and we managed to restock some items that were getting pretty low, including some of the canned foods. My coworker and only friend, Alice informed me that a couple of guys on the nightshift guard had failed to catch a few men that had come in and stole a bunch of our food. These men had traded it for weapons or cigarettes to some outsiders from some neighboring compound.
"Goodnight Victoria!" Alice's cheerful voice called after me as I made my way back to my house. I shot her a smile over my shoulder and waved. As I stepped out into the warm evening air, my ears were graced with a bone-chilling scream and a loud, crunching THWACK. My eyes darted over to the commons where the commotion was coming from. A chill ran down my spine as Negan's words echoed in my mind "It might get a bit messy."
I picked up my pace slightly, reaching my front door I slipped inside quickly. My heart thumped in my chest and I realized it wasn't fear, it was excitement.
Negan had asked me to come back tonight. I worried he might have changed his mind, but his expression flickered in my mind. He had looked at me as though he was looking into my soul, a smirk played on his lips and his tone had been sincere. I trusted him.
I let out a shaky breath and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear before stepping back outside. The sun just sank below the horizon, casting long shadows over the campground. The air felt cool against my skin, a welcome feeling from the blazing heat earlier today. I walked towards the long ramp that snaked its way up to the catwalk near the commons. The guards were stationed near the door, as always. They gave me a quick nod before stepping aside, letting me through without question. I hesitated momentarily before stepping through the door.
I made my way to his room, amazed at myself for remembering how to get there through all the hallways and turns. My pulse quickened as I reached his door, knocking softly before entering. He wasn't seated at his desk and Lucille wasn't propped up in the usual spot he placed it. I must have beaten him here.
I swallowed and looked around. I didn't get to have a good look yesterday while I was here, and I was in too much of a hurry this morning to notice. The room was larger than the one in my house, more furnished, but still holding that rugged, makeshift feel that came with surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. I wandered over to the edge of his desk, my fingers trailing absentmindedly along the wood.
The sound of the door opening snapped me back to reality.
Negan walked in, his silhouette filling the doorway, and my breath caught in my throat. Holy fuck. He was covered from head to toe in blood spatter, his black shirt clung to his chest, outlining his chiseled abs. He still held his usual swagger but there was something different about his eyes. They flicked over me almost cautiously. He hesitated, just for a moment, as if gauging my reaction, waiting to see if I would recoil in disgust or cower in fear.
But I didn't.
Instead, something else flared inside of me. Something even I hadn't expected, and it took me by surprise. My heart was racing, but it wasn't from fear, it was something far more intense. The blood, the roughness, the unapologetic power he held over this place and these people. It ignited a fire in me that I hadn't realized I was even capable of feeling. I could feel my pulse quicken, but I met his gaze and held it steady. And I knew in that moment, I knew he saw it.
The passion. The hunger. The absolute feral desire that washed over my body.
I slowly took a step forward, my eyes never leaving his. "Rough day?" I asked, my voice quieter than I intended, but steady, challenging almost. I could see the wicked smirk flicker over his lips, the ever-present sarcasm still holding strong, but his eyes held something different now.
