Nearly every student of Canterlot High returned to the gym for the Fall Formal... except for Mario and Sunset Shimmer who were at the front entrance, sitting down on the stairs.
Sunset Shimmer: W-What did you want to talk to me about, Y/N?
Mario: I want to know why you'd do it. Why you did all of those terrible things in CHS. You said you had a terrible past back in Equestria, right?
Sunset looked away away from Mario and flinched at that question before sighing.
Sunset Shimmer: It's true. Before I came to this world, I... I didn't have the best life. I'm guessing Twilight told you everything about Equestria and who she really is?
Mario: *nods* Pretty much, yeah. Tell me about your life there before you came here.
Sunset Shimmer: You... want to listen to me... and my story?
Mario: I know it's hard... I understand you don't want to talk about it. But it'll definitely help out for what you regret.
Sunset looks down to the ground in guilt as she was a little hesitant to tell her to Mario, but she knew that he wouldn't be so ignorant about it now since he really wants to know.
Sunset Shimmer: Okay... I'll tell you everything.
Sunset Shimmer: I'm a unicorn born into a wealthy family of nobles in Equestria's Canterlot. You would think that my life is amazing, being able to live in a paradise of luxury... but it wasn't. My parents... they abused me.
Mario's eyes widened in shock from that.
Mario: What?!
Sunset Shimmer: They treated me more as their slave than their own daughter in a family. They made me work vigorously day and night and always make sure that I would never fail or even be below the top in any of my classes. All I ever wanted was to be loved by them but they never did.
Mario couldn't help but stare at Sunset in shock for how mistreated she must have been and even some thoughts circled in his mind as his past is no where as bad as hers.
Sunset Shimmer: Even doing all of those things to try and make them proud wasn't enough, so I decided to enroll in Princess Celestia's school of Gifted Unicorns to see if anything would change.
Mario: What did you do there?
Sunset Shimmer: Well, first I had to use my magic to try and make a phoenix egg hatch. I thought it would be challenging, but I ended up doing it on the first try which surprised the judges. Once I got my cutie mark and discovered my special talent in magic, I became Princess Celestia's student long before Twilight ever was. I was beyond excited over the idea of working under THE Princess Celestia and to finally get the attention from my parents like I always wanted.
Mario: Yeah. I can only imagine something like that. Not to mention, how proud you must've been.
Sunset Shimmer: I was... at that time. Turns out, that wasn't even enough to make them respect me. If anything, it just made things worse as they were still the same as before. They simply urged me to succeed even more as Princess Celestia's student because they only cared about boosting their status amongst the other nobles.
Mario: That's pretty harsh...
Sunset Shimmer: It doesn't stop there though, the other noble kids were jealous of me being Princess Celestia's student so they never wanted anything to do with me. I had no friends and my parents never truly cared for me.
