Herr General Carl Rutter laid in his bed, staring in wonder at his ceiling and walls, adorned with bird figures, both taxidermy and handmade of wax or wood by himself. He grinned heavily, grabbing his Schwarzwälder Kuckuck mask. He was born in Schwarzwäld, and his fascination with birds was ever so great. He wanted to be surrounded by his lovely, feathered animals, to be engorged with the presence of birds, to become a bird.

He was so obsessed with this idea that he did everything in his power to make it come true. Behind the backs of the other four Generals, he worked all night every night when everyone else was asleep, experimenting, chanting, talking to his mask. He could feel its power growing, anticipating for the day of release. He would caress it after a night of working, before bed, and wake up with the mask on his face, as if it went there on its own, begging for a host.

Herr Rutter was ready, and he couldn't wait any more. He waited until midnight, when all of the Generals would already be in bed, and most of the soldiers quiet. He grinned as he got up and grabbed his precious mask. He stroked it one more time, the insides, the fragile beak, the soft feathers, which he got from one of his taxidermies. He hummed as he fixed it onto his face, caressing it again, lulling it into its own comfort, so it would begin the process which he had so hoped for since he was a little boy.

He giggled giddily, slightly wincing as he felt a sharp pain, almost like he was being stabbed. He gasped as he tried to pull off the mask, perhaps he had second thoughts about this process, yet he realised that he could not take the mask off. It was sticking itself to his face, merging with him. "Ah-ah, get off..." he grumbled. But this is what he wanted, he should stop struggling. He let go of the mask and stepped over to his full-body mirror, watching as the mask grew over three-fourths of his face. He could feel the burning sensation, yet it was somewhat addictive.

He could feel the sharp feathers pricking into his torso, forming around his arms like wings.

"Oh, yes, I can feel its power..." he shudders, the feeling almost arousing as he bleeds through the white feathers, staining them red.

He felt elite, powerful, like he can just take over the world. He's become one with his mask, and he's happy.
