the sun was just starting to peek through the blinds, casting that soft morning glow across the room. clementine woke up slowly, stretching out beneath the blankets before turning her head to see nicholas still sound asleep beside her. the sight of him—all tangled in the sheets, his hair slightly messy—made her smile without even trying. he always looked like he'd just stepped out of a dream, even first thing in the morning.
she didn't want to wake him, so instead, she just reached out and brushed her fingers lightly over his arm, enjoying the feeling of being so close to him. a soft hum escaped her lips as she watched him stir. after a moment, he blinked slowly, his eyes fluttering open, squinting at the sunlight coming in.
"good morning," he mumbled, his voice still thick with sleep, but the smile on his face told her he wasn't upset to be awake.
"morning," clementine replied quietly, still smiling. she watched as he rubbed his eyes, then turned to face her, his expression soft.
"you're up early," he said, reaching for her hand and gently pulling it toward him, entwining their fingers together.
"yeah," she said with a little sigh, "guess i got excited about today." she glanced at the clock on the nightstand, seeing that it was still pretty early. "big day ahead."
