Days rolled by, and with each passing moment, the anticipation for Musicana grew. But more than the excitement for the event itself, it was the blossoming friendship between Manik and Nandini that filled his thoughts. As he leaned against his car, his mind drifted to their shared moments, the laughter echoing in his ears, and the subtle spark that had begun to illuminate his heart.

It was past noon, and the usual punctuality Nandini exhibited was noticeably absent. He glanced at his watch for what felt like the hundredth time, his mind racing with concerns he couldn't quite articulate. "She's my friend," he had insisted to Cabir and Mukti, but the fervor in his voice betrayed him. As his friends teased him, calling him a lovestruck Majnu, he felt the heat rise in his cheeks. They didn't understand, Nandini was different. There was something about her that made him feel more alive, more vulnerable, and more himself than he had in a long time.

"Call her then," Cabir suggested casually, but the truth hit Manik like a cold wave. "I don't have her number." The realization was jarring. How had he spent so much time with her and not taken that simple step? The surprise on his friends' faces mirrored the shock he felt within. In a world where he was usually the center of attention, where confidence flowed like a river, here he was, uncharacteristically floundering.

Mukti's incredulity stung a little. "Seriously, Manik?" she asked, her brow raised in disbelief. He could sense the underlying amusement in her tone, but it only added to the unease stirring inside him. Cabir's playful banter about how he had become a lost puppy following Nandini around only compounded his frustration. They didn't see what he saw in her—the way her laughter brightened the dullest days, the passion with which she approached everything, the kindness that drew people to her. She wasn't just a friend; she was a light in a world that sometimes felt overwhelmingly dark.

As his mind spiraled into worry, he blurted out a prayer for her safety, the words escaping before he could rein them back in. "Aiyappa, please take care of her." The sudden shift in his tone startled both Cabir and Mukti. They exchanged glances, taken aback by this vulnerable side of

Manik that they rarely witnessed. It was a stark reminder of how deeply Nandini had woven herself into the fabric of his life, and their expressions shifted from teasing to genuine concern and understanding. They were witnessing a transformation, a tender evolution of Manik's heart, and a part of them felt grateful that he had found someone so special.

"Hey, see! Nandu came!" Cabir's voice broke through his spiraling thoughts, drawing Manik's attention. He shot a glance toward the entrance, a rush of relief flooding him at the sight of her. But then he realized Cabir was just teasing him, and the laughter that erupted from his friends felt like a soft punch in the gut. As much as he tried to play it cool, his heart raced at the thought of her, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something significant was unfolding between them something that could change everything.

"Maybe she's taking a leave today. Manik, let's go, we're already late for lecture," Mukti said, breaking through his thoughts. Manik hesitated, glancing back at the entrance one last time, as if Nandini might appear at any moment.

"Yeah, okay," he replied reluctantly, his mind still partially with her. The thought of missing her today gnawed at him, but the prospect of being late for class with his friends pulled him back to reality.

As they walked toward the lecture hall, Cabir and Mukti chatted animatedly about the upcoming performances at Musicana, their excitement palpable. Manik forced a smile, trying to join in, but his mind kept drifting back to Nandini. What if something was wrong? What if she needed him?

The lecture dragged on, the professor's voice a distant hum in his ears. He couldn't focus, the clock on the wall ticking louder with each passing minute. He thought about texting her, but without her number, he felt stuck. It was frustrating, this sense of helplessness, and the nagging worry only deepened.
