Manik's heart raced with a mix of excitement and apprehension as he prepared for the lunch his parents had insisted on hosting. It was an unusual request, inviting his friends Cabir and Mukti, along with his "new friend" Nandini. Over the past four months, Nandini had become someone special to him, a soothing balm to the angry monster that had often defined Manik Malhotra. He recalled how her laughter could lighten his darkest days and how her gentle nature had drawn out a softness he thought he had lost forever.

As he paced around the living room, he could hear the front door creak open. Cabir burst in, his infectious energy filling the space. "Manik! I can smell the food from a mile away!" he exclaimed, flinging his arms wide to embrace Samir, who chuckled at his son's best friend's antics.

Mukti followed closely behind, her playful demeanor radiating warmth. The moment she entered, she playfully hit Cabir on the back of the head. "Less about food, more about charm, Cabir!" she teased, her laughter echoing through the hallway.

"Come in, kids!" Samir called out, gesturing for them to join him at the dining table, where an array of delicious dishes awaited. Nandini arrived a bit later, her presence lighting up the room. Manik felt his heart skip as she held Mukti's hand, a sign of her comfort and ease with his friends. When she looked at Manik and smiled softly, he felt a rush of affection. It was a smile that seemed to promise secrets, shared moments, and an understanding that ran deeper than words.

"Hey, I'm really glad you came," Manik said, gesturing for Nandini to walk ahead of him to the table. His voice was warm, almost shy, revealing the tender side of him that only she could evoke. Nandini glanced back, her eyes sparkling with delight.

"I am glad you invited me," she replied, her tone light but her gaze earnest.

As they settled at the dining table, the air was thick with the aroma of freshly cooked food, and the laughter of friends filled the room. Nyeonka, ever the gracious host, looked at Nandini with a warm smile. "It's so lovely to finally meet you, Nandini. Manik has told us so much about you," she said, her tone inviting and gentle.

Nandini's cheeks flushed slightly as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Thank you, Auntie. It's really nice to be here," she replied softly, her politeness evident in every word.

Samir leaned in, a playful glint in his eye. "I never thought you would make Manik your friend. " he remarked, chuckling at the surprise of it all.

Nandini's smile widened as she met Samir's gaze. "Manik's nice too," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, but it carried a warmth that made Manik's heart swell.

"Yeah, he is nice to you," Cabir chimed in, his teasing tone light but affectionate. Manik shot him a glare, his face slightly reddening. He discreetly kicked Cabir under the table, but Cabir only giggled, clearly enjoying the friendly banter.

As the playful atmosphere continued, Samir leaned back in his chair, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "You know, Manik," he teased, raising an eyebrow, "I think you've finally found someone who can handle your 'charming' personality."

Cabir jumped in, unable to resist the opportunity. "Yeah, look at you, Mr. Softie! Who knew you could smile like that?" He gestured animatedly, leaning closer as if sharing a juicy secret. "Nandini, he was all scowls before you came along. Now look at him!"

Manik shot them both a glare, his cheeks flushing a deeper shade of pink. "Come on, guys, seriously?" he muttered, trying to maintain some composure, but the heat on his face betrayed him.

Nandini, sitting across from him, noticed the subtle change in his expression. Her eyes widened slightly, surprised by the sight of Manik's rare smile. It was an endearing sight, one she hadn't seen before, and she felt a flutter of warmth in her chest. "See? He's blushing!" Samir declared, clearly enjoying the moment.
