The Black Archives became colder than anything Seraphine had ever felt, a chill so deep it seemed to seep into her bones. They all felt the danger that loomed.
"The Voidbringer? What's that?" Seraphine asked the Voice, but it did not respond.
The air itself seemed thick with the weight of untold secrets, and for a moment, none of them spoke, letting the eerie stillness sink in.
Suddenly, the other orbs began to disperse, and all that was left was the odd orb.
Azrael, Seraphine, Lirael, and Kael stepped forward cautiously, their eyes scanning the orb with cautiousness. Time seemed to tick by slowly - the quartet began to lose their patience.
Lirael could no longer stand the anxiety, so she stretched out her arm, her fingers aiming for the orb.
"Lirael, what are you .... Don't!" Kael barked out in fear as Lirael made contact with the orb.
In a second, the orb burst out with thick malevolent energy.
"Lirael, what have you done?!" Azrael scowled as they began to dodge the lashes of dark energy.
"I was impatient! I'm sorry!" Lirael yelled back.
"Oh, you're going to get us all killed, Lirael." Kael jeered as he dodged the lashes of tendrils that attacked him.
"We need to take cover!" Seraphine yelled out to them.
It didn't take long for the Archives to return to its former state - the eerie stillness was back. The quartet came out of their refuge and walked back to the altar.
"Cowards!" The Voice bellowed, "How do you intend to uncover the truth if you're weak?!"
"We are not weak! Show us what the Voidbringer is!" Seraphine demanded.
Out of nowhere, a book dropped on the altar. It was the largest of manuscripts they've ever seen - bound in cracked black leather and covered in arcane sigils.
“This is it,” he murmured, a note of awe creeping into Azrael's voice. “This is where we’ll find the truth.”
Lirael, ever bold, stepped forward and ran her fingers over the ancient tome. “We didn’t come this far to turn back now,” she said, her voice a low growl. “Whatever this power is, we need to know it. It might be our only chance to defeat the Abyss.”
Seraphine, sensing the weight of the moment, took a deep breath and placed her hand on the book beside Lirael’s. The cover was icy to the touch, and as her fingers brushed over the symbols, the markings began to glow.
The room seemed to respond, the walls vibrating softly as if the very air trembled in anticipation.
Without a word, the quartet worked together to open the book.
As the pages slowly spread, a dark mist unfurled from within, swirling around them like a sentient force.
They stood in the heart of the archives, surrounded by the endless volumes of history, but as the mist thickened, it began to transform, pulling them into a vision.
The stone walls faded into nothingness, replaced by a vast, starless void. It was an expanse unlike any they had ever seen — an endless black where light could not exist. And there, in the center of that void, hovered a massive, hulking figure.
Its form was formless, shifting constantly, as if the laws of reality bent around it. Tendrils of darkness stretched from its core, and its very presence seemed to devour the space around it, warping everything it touched.
