"Do you know when his deployment is gonna end?" Blake asked, glancing over at Amelia as they sat down to eat.

Amelia took a bite of her hot, juicy burger, savoring the comfort of the meal before answering. "Nope," she said, shaking her head. "He’s been deployed for two years now. He said he misses home, but he’s not sure when he’ll be back."

Blake nodded thoughtfully, dipping a fry into ketchup. "Must be tough, being out there for so long. But at least he's got you to keep him sane, huh?" He smirked, giving her a playful nudge.

Amelia smiled softly, wiping the corner of her mouth. "I guess. I just hope my letters help him feel a little less alone." She paused, her thoughts briefly drifting to Alexander and how much their correspondence had come to mean to her. "He’s been a huge support for me too, you know? Even though he’s halfway across the world."

Blake smiled, his eyes warm with understanding. "You two have something special. It’s rare to find that kind of connection, especially under those circumstances."

Amelia nodded, feeling a bit of warmth spread through her chest. "Yeah, it is." She took another bite, the comfort of the moment, and Blake’s company, making everything feel just a little more manageable.

“I want to send him something, like maybe some cookies to make his taste buds dance,” Amelia confessed, her eyes lighting up with the idea.

Blake raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile spreading across his face. “Cookies? Now that’s a plan! You really think he’ll appreciate your baking skills from a couple of thousand miles away?”

“Of course!” Amelia replied, laughing. “I’ve been practicing. Plus, who wouldn’t love a care package? It might remind him of home.” She could already picture Alexander opening a box filled with her freshly baked cookies, the smell transporting him back to simpler, sweeter times.

Blake grinned, clearly on board with her plan. “Alright, then! I’ll help you bake. Let’s make sure those cookies are good enough to knock his socks off.”

“Deal!” Amelia said, feeling a surge of excitement. “We can experiment with different flavors. Maybe chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and some peanut butter ones!”

“Now you're talking! This is going to be a delicious mission,” Blake said, finishing off his burger. “Let’s wrap up here and get started. We’ve got a cookie-making extravaganza ahead of us!”

With a newfound enthusiasm, they quickly polished off their meals, the anticipation of their baking adventure filling the air with laughter and lightheartedness.

When they got home, Amelia and Blake rolled up their sleeves and got to work in the kitchen. They baked a variety of different cookies: classic chocolate chip, chewy oatmeal raisin, and rich peanut butter. The sweet aroma filled the air, wrapping around them like a warm hug as they chatted and laughed, the kitchen quickly becoming a mess of flour and smiles.

As the cookies cooled on the counter, Amelia paused, thinking about the connection she had with both men. “You know, I think I should send a box to Lt. Hamilton too,” she said, her eyes sparkling with inspiration. “He’s Alexander’s best friend, and it would be nice for both of them to enjoy a taste of home.”

Blake nodded, his smile wide. “That’s a great idea! It’s a thoughtful gesture, and I’m sure he’d appreciate it just as much. Plus, it’ll probably make Alexander even happier knowing his friend is enjoying a piece of home too.”

Amelia quickly got to work, carefully packing the cookies into a sturdy box. She added a little note for both men, expressing her hope that the treats would bring a smile to their faces and remind them of the warmth of home.

As she sealed the box, Amelia felt a sense of fulfillment. This was more than just cookies; it was a way to connect, to share love and comfort across the miles. With Blake’s help, they finished packing the box and made sure everything was secure for the journey.

“Ready to send these off?” Blake asked, his excitement matching hers.

“Absolutely!” Amelia replied, feeling a sense of joy that this simple act could mean so much to both Alexander and Lt. Hamilton. Together, they made plans to drop off the package the next day, eager to share a piece of home with the two men who had become so important to her.

“So, what do you want to do now?” Blake asked, leaning against the kitchen counter, his arms crossed.

“Well, we can order pizza and catch a movie,” Amelia suggested, her face brightening at the thought of a cozy evening in.

“Pizza sounds perfect,” Blake replied, already pulling out his phone. “What do you feel like? Pepperoni? Veggie? Or are we feeling adventurous?”

Amelia laughed, considering the options. “Let’s go with pepperoni. You can’t go wrong with a classic!”

“Classic it is,” Blake confirmed, tapping away on his phone to place the order. As he did, Amelia tidied up the kitchen, putting away the remaining baking supplies while looking forward to some downtime.

Once the order was placed, they settled into the living room, flipping through streaming options. “What do you want to watch?” Blake asked, scrolling through the titles.

“Something light and funny,” Amelia replied, needing a good laugh after the emotional rollercoaster of the past few days. “How about that new rom-com?”

Blake grinned. “Perfect choice! I could use some good romance and laughs.”

As they waited for the pizza to arrive, they curled up on the couch, excitement buzzing in the air. Amelia felt a wave of gratitude wash over her; evenings like this reminded her of the strength of their friendship, helping her feel less alone in a world that had recently felt so overwhelming.

A couple of minutes into the movie, the doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of the pizza. Amelia shot up from the couch, a grin spreading across her face. “I’ll get it!” she called, eager to enjoy their dinner.

As she opened the door, the smell of warm, cheesy pizza wafted in, making her stomach rumble. She thanked the delivery driver and took the pizza box, carefully balancing it as she made her way back to the living room.

Meanwhile, Blake was already adjusting the couch cushions, making it more comfortable for their movie night. “Perfect timing!” he said, eyeing the pizza eagerly.

“Absolutely,” Amelia replied, setting the box down on the coffee table. “I’ll grab some juice and napkins.” She hurried to the kitchen, grabbing two glasses and filling them with cold juice before grabbing a stack of napkins.

When she returned, she found Blake already reaching for a slice, a look of delight on his face. “You have no idea how hungry I’ve been,” he said, taking a big bite.

Amelia laughed, handing him a napkin. “Careful, don’t want to get pizza sauce all over the couch.” She grabbed her own slice and settled back down, feeling cozy and content.

They resumed the movie, the sounds of laughter and fun filling the room, blending with the delicious taste of pizza. As they ate, Amelia felt her worries fade away, replaced by the joy of friendship and the comfort of a good film.

As the movie came to an end, the gentle glow of the screen faded to credits, and a peaceful silence enveloped the room. The warmth of the evening and the comfort of the pizza had lulled both friends into a deep sleep.

Amelia had unconsciously shifted, her head resting comfortably in Blake's lap, the soft fabric of his jeans providing a perfect pillow. Her breathing was slow and steady, a serene expression on her face.

Blake, unaware of how he had ended up in such a position, had let his head fall back against the couch, his eyes closed and a content smile lingering on his lips. The gentle rise and fall of their breathing filled the room, creating a cozy atmosphere that felt safe and secure.

The night outside was calm, the only sound coming from the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze. In that tranquil moment, the weight of the world seemed to lift, allowing them both to find solace in the simple act of being together, their friendship serving as a comforting anchor in the chaos of life.
