After freshening up, Alexander drove back to the dental clinic, excitement bubbling within him. He could hardly wait to see Amelia again. As he pulled into the parking lot, he caught sight of her through the large clinic windows, her hair shining in the soft afternoon light. She was laughing at something Blake had said, her smile brightening the room.
He stepped out of his jeep, straightening his uniform and taking a deep breath to compose himself. The moment felt important, a small but significant step in their relationship. Alexander opened the door and walked inside, the familiar bell above the entrance chiming softly.
Blake, who was at the reception desk, spotted him first. With a knowing grin, he gave a subtle nod toward Amelia, who was now organizing her things.
“Hey, soldier,” Blake said with a smirk. “Ready to sweep her off her feet?”
“Always,” Alexander replied, his tone confident. He stepped closer, and Amelia turned around, her eyes lighting up at the sight of him.
“Alexander!” she exclaimed, dropping her papers and rushing toward him. She threw her arms around his neck, pulling him into a warm embrace. Alexander enveloped her in his arms, the comforting scent of her hair filling his senses.
“I missed you,” she whispered, stepping back slightly to look up at him, her eyes sparkling.
“Missed you too,” he said, unable to suppress a smile. “Ready to head home?”
“Definitely!” Amelia replied, her excitement infectious.
They exchanged a brief, knowing look before heading out together. As they walked to the jeep, Alexander took her hand, intertwining their fingers. The warmth of her skin against his sent a rush of happiness through him.
Once they were settled into the vehicle, Amelia turned to him, her smile radiant. “So, what are we doing tonight?”
“I thought we could grab some dinner and then maybe watch a movie? I brought a couple of options with me,” he suggested, glancing over at her as he started the engine.
“I love that plan! I could definitely use a relaxing evening after the week I’ve had,” Amelia said, leaning back into her seat, visibly relaxed.
As they drove through the familiar streets, Alexander couldn’t help but glance at her every now and then, captivated by how effortlessly beautiful she looked. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden hue over everything, and he felt a deep sense of gratitude for this moment—together at last.
“Did Blake give you a hard time before I got here?” Alexander asked, smirking at the thought of his friend’s playful teasing.
“Of course! He wouldn’t be Blake if he didn’t,” Amelia laughed. “He made sure to remind me about my ‘sexy soldier’ coming to pick me up.”
“Just doing his job as your best friend, I suppose,” Alexander replied, shaking his head with an amused grin. “But don’t let him fool you. I’m just a guy who’s lucky to have you in his life.”
Amelia looked at him, her expression softening. “I feel the same way. It’s so nice to finally be together like this after all the time we spent apart.”
They arrived at a cozy restaurant that Amelia loved, known for its warm atmosphere and delicious food. As they entered, the hostess greeted them and led them to a booth in the corner, providing a perfect view of the restaurant. They settled in, and as they perused the menu, the conversation flowed effortlessly.
“I’m so glad you’re back,” Amelia said, her eyes locking onto his. “It feels like everything is finally falling into place.”
“Me too,” Alexander replied sincerely. “I’ve been looking forward to this more than anything. Just us, together.”
