The sun illuminated the den, sunlight seeping in. The not so small dragon yawned, opening her purple eyes. She moaned, something furry on top of her... Whirlnight. Grunting sleepily, she got up, knocking the wolf off her.
"Gah- wha?" A small yelp came from Whirlnight when she hit the ground.
"Sorry Whirlnight!" Starshot whispered, sneaking out from the den. She was a lot larger then the day before.
Whirlnight looked to her new friend in curiosity, noticing how large she was. "How big are you going to get?" Whirlnight asked, following after the dragon that was almost twice her size now.
"I'm not sure... Big?" Starshot looked down to Whirlnight. The rate Starshot was growing at definitely wasn't natural, even for a dragon. She spread her wings, soaking up the sunlight. Her birthmark, a star, began to shine. It was a bright yellow, like some sort of lightning.
"Are you gonna try to fly today? You seem pretty ready to me!" Whirlnight yipped.
"Maybe..." Starshot turned to gaze to her right wing. It had grown, a lot. She spread it out, it reaching very far. She looked to her left and did the same. They looked pretty much the same size.
"You already know how to fly, right?" Whirlnight asked, sitting down.
"Well uh... I know how to get in the air, but I don't know how to stay there." Starshot admitted, her ears flattening embarrassedly.
"Ah, don't you worry! With me around, you'll be flying like a pro!" Whirlnight smiled proud fully at her speech. Laughs came from the corner of the den. Three male winged wolf pups, laughing at Whirlnight. She snarled, "What? Can you do any better? I bet you guys like 30 times at a flying race!" She snorted. They all just laughed and flew out.
Starshot watched them, copying their movements on the ground.
"Oh Starshot, don't watch those guys! They don't even have a good flight pattern." Whirlnight exclaimed. "Come on. I know a good place to practise." She smiled.
Starshot watched Whirlnight take off, not far from the ground though. She dashed after her.
About half an hour it had taken them to get here. The area was hidden, surrounded by trees. It dipped down, into a cove like place. There was a tiny waterfall in it, with wonderfully coloured fish swimming about. "Those, are magnificent fish. Koi's, they are!" A pups voice spoke from behind.
Whirlnight and Starshot swirled around, looking at who was there. It was one of the boys they saw earlier. "Where are your friends, Cole?" Whirlnight asked, anger in her tone.
"Relax Whirlnight! You know I'd never take them here. They'd think I'm crazy!" Cole spoke. He looked over to Starshot, looking a bit frightened.
"What, are you scared of her?" Whirlnight asked, laughing a little.
"She's a dragon! Of corse I'm gonna be scared, almost every pup is!" Cole whined.
Starshot flattened her ears, snarling.
"She has feelings, you do realise." Whirlnight grunted angrily.
"Why is she here anyway?" Cole asked.
"I'm teaching her how to fly." Whirlnight mumbled a little.
Cole burst out laughing. "HOW TO FLY?! SHE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO FLY?!"
Starshot pinned him down, snarling. "Just because I can't fly, doesn't mean I can't kill you." She huffed.
Cole whined, flattening his ears, "Please... Don't hurt me."
Starshot huffed. "Well, don't talk about me like that. I'm only five days old." She snarled as she got off him.
Cole got up, surprised at her age. But, without a word, he flew away.
Whirlnight was surprised to see that side of Starshot. She shook it off, and spread her wings. "Ready to learn?" She smirked.
"Ready." Starshot replied, spreading her wings.
After a good two hours of training, she could basically fly. "Alright," Whirlnight spoke, "I think your good."
Starshot hovered in the air, smiling. The sun was vanishing. "Come on. We should go now."
"Agreed." Whirlnight replied, taking flight. She headed toward the camp.
Starshot was a very fast flyer- Whirlnight could hardly keep up!
It took them at least ten minutes to get back. Well, Starshot anyway. It took Whirlnight fifteen.
Whirlnight panted, slowly landing. Starshot watched as she touched the ground. She fell over, exhausted. Starshot purred, picking her up and taking her to the pups den. "Aren't you hungry?" Starshot asked.
"No... Tired..." Whirlnight muttered, closing her eyes. Starshot nudged her.
"Come on! You've gotta eat. You didn't even have a Koi." Starshot insisted. "Here! I'll bring you some."
Whirlnight huffed, "Ok..." Starshot smiled. She dashed off to where the wolves eat.
"Hello, Starshot!" Solar smiled. "My, you've gotten big!" He chuckled.
"Yeah, I have." She giggled. She grabbed three large bits of meat.
"Not eating here tonight?" Solar asked.
"No, I'm gonna eat with Whirlnight back at the pups den." Starshot replied.
"Alright, good night!" Solar spoke with happiness, but disappointment lurked in his voice. Starshot fake smiled, realising that Solar wanted her to stay.
With a sigh, she dashed off, towards the pups den. Darkness had already fallen upon them."Whirlnight? Are you awake?" Starshot nudged the small pup. Whirlnight huffed grumpily, but didn't open her eyes. "Alright then... Well, here's your food." She pushed the meat over to Whirlnight. She sighed as she walked out with her meat.
She looked up at the stars, watching them twinkle. She put her food aside as she tried to make things from the stars. Maybe she could find her family from here...
She shook her head, padding back to the pups den and sighing. She laid down next to Whirlnight, and closed her eyes, as one single tear rolled down her grey, scaly cheek.
