“Look, I'm a lesbian, so... I'm really not interested in you.”

CORDELIA HASTINGS knew exactly how it felt to be considered as inferior all her life. Being a black woman, lesbian, younger than most people who surrounded her, her life had always been far away from being considered easy.

Becoming a surgical intern at twenty two and a cardio attending at twenty six had been extremely arduous— but just as extremely satisfying.

After merely two years as an attending in New York, she became a teacher at the same university she used to go to— Stanford.

There she found love, a family, and had the worst heartbreak in all her life.

But after years of teaching... she missed the adrenaline of surgeries, as well as the unpredictability life of a doctor.

That was why, as soon as she was offered to be a candidate for Chief of surgery's position, she accepted right away.

Because it was near to her brother, because it was the job she wanted to do... but also because, deeply, she wanted to see her again.

And although her whole life had always been a bit of a rollercoaster, she wasn't prepared at all for what kinds of things expected her at Seattle Grace.

Because, however difficult her life may have been, Cordelia had never found herself facing death.

Not before setting foot in that damn hospital.

“What? I wasn't hitting on you! Ew— I mean, no offense, but ew. And I'm gay! Just so you know. Ew."

ELIJAH BENNET wasn't born in a family that wanted him.

His mother was barely fifteen when she had him, and his father didn't even care to make himself known, disappearing from both's lives in the blink of an eye.

Although his mother tried everything in her will to give her son all she could, being a teenager with a child wasn't easy at all, even more if her parents made their lives a living hell.

And even though at the start Lily Bennet would've given her son the moon, if she could've... she eventually grew to hate him.

Being seven years old and not understanding why his mother loved his younger sibling but not him always made Elijah fear he wasn't good enough.

And when she kept making kids, even though she couldn't give any attention to the first child she'd ever given birth to—

He felt jealous.

He wanted to make her proud... to make them all proud. His mom, his grandparents, his little siblings he was jealous of but couldn't bring himself to hate. He wanted to make them proud so that they would love him.

He would make all of them proud.
...and for a while it even worked.

That until someone from school hadn't discovered him kissing with another guy, and spread the rumour.

The day before It happened had been the last day of Elijah's life in which he felt wanted and loved by anyone.

He was sixteen.

Now, working at Seattle Grace Hospital years later, surrounded by people who were like him, and understood him fully, could it be that he had found a family better than the one he was born in?

...could it be that he had finally found a person he would want to spend the rest of his life with?

But, of course, good things ceased to exist after a certain amount of time.

And so did him.

ISCLAIMER.

-The rights to grey's anatomy, along with its characters and plots, go to the creator of the series. I, however, own the original characters I created and the plotlines that revolve around them.

-This fic will mainly follow canon, but I'll probably change some less important subplots and add some things to make it more interesting.

-I won't tolerate any racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic or any kind of hateful comment. Any hate comments will be cancelled and you'll be blocked.
I accept constructive or negative comments, but don't exaggerate and try to respect my work. Also keep in mind that I'm just sixteen, so please don't be too hard on me.

-English isn't my native language, so if there are mistakes please let me know. And please don't ask for updates, I write when I can (and for fun) and it takes time to write a chapter

WARNINGS.

-This fic might include minor and major characters deaths, mentions of suicide, grief, blood, violence, depression, description of wounds (and everything you would usually find in a normal ep of grey's).

Please don't read if you don't feel comfortable with those themes!

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hii! I'm back with this new fic that honestly spawned in my head less than a week ago.

Just wanted to say that, even though both Cordelia and Elijah are my ocs and have their love stories and such things, I'll mostly write from Cordelia's pov. That's why she's the one in the cover.

There will be probably a few chapters from Elijah's pov, and of course he'll have his lines and time in normal chapters.

I hope you like it! Thank you so much for reading, voting or commenting!
