"Are you and Franco dating?" Ollie asks Alaia when they meet for coffee, a few days after the two land back in London. Franco's gone up to Grove to do some sim work, much to Ollie's relief — he won't need to be a third wheel.
Alaia ponders the question as she takes a sip of her coffee. "I... I don't know. I think we have been acting like a couple. I've called him my boyfriend to my other friends, but like... I don't think he knows. Maybe?"
"He's been staying with you," Ollie points out. "That's couple-y enough. And you guys always hold hands. And he kisses you. If you're not a couple, then I don't know what is."
"Oh," Alaia says. A couple. She and Franco. It sounded good. It sounded right, and Alaia thinks that the fear of relationships is slowly dissipating. "I think I'll have to talk to him about that."
Ollie smiles. "It's good to see. I'm glad that you've found someone that makes you happy. That grand gesture did wonders, huh?"
Ollie's known her for most of her life, and Alaia's perspective of love has really changed ever since he'd introduced Franco to her, and he can't help but give himself a little pat on the back.
"Thanks, Ollie."

"Can I ask you something?" Alaia asks later that night. They're both in bed, and Franco's got his arm wrapped around her waist.
"Mhm," he mumbles. His eyes are closed as he draws circles on the side of Alaia's waist with his finger.
She doesn't know why she's nervous. Franco does like her. They've been acting like a couple — these words should be relatively easy to say. "I just wanted to ask... are we like... dating?"
Franco's eyes shoot open. "Would you like to date me?" he asks her. He can't hide the grin that graces his lips.
"Yes," Alaia admits. "I would like that."
Franco's grin grows even wider. "Good," he says, and he presses a soft kiss to her lips. "I kind of thought we were anyways, but hey. This makes things official. And I didn't want to be too pushy."
"Thank you," she smiles. "You're the best."
"You're the best too," he says, and he kisses her again. "I'm very lucky to call you my girlfriend, querida."
She was his girlfriend. He was her boyfriend. Those words would've made Alaia feel scared before, but those words are some of the best things she's ever heard now. Franco makes her feel safe, and she just knows that he's the right guy.
That fear of heartbreak dissipates whenever she's with him. And it's like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.
She figures that she should tell him why she was so afraid of love, so unwilling to give relationships a shot until he came along — but then she takes a quick glance at his face, and he sees that giddy smile on his lips. That smile that tells her that he's undoubtedly in complete awe and adoration of her.
She can save it for another day. For now, she'll enjoy this moment of tranquility in his arms after actually being able to call him hers.
