"They are totally making out," I heard my best friend say through the phone.
It's currently a Friday night and I'm stuck at home while my best friend Rachel is at some high school party. Well I wouldn't exactly say stuck since I would rather be here than hanging around some drunk assholes.
"Ugh, of course they are. I think it's safe to say I will never have a chance with him," I sighed.
Rachel and I were talking about Jordan Tanner. A guy I've had a crush on since the second grade.
"C'mon Val, you don't know that. Besides, even if that's true you don't need him. He's a player," she said, which is true. He has a different girl every week.
"Valerie, can you come down here?" I heard my grandma say from downstairs.
"Sorry Rach, I gotta go my grandma's calling for me," I said to Rachel.
"Okay, tell her I said hi. I'll see you tomorrow," Rachel said.
"Okay, bye," I replied before hanging up the phone.
I got up from my bed, and went to go turn off some eighties movie that was on the TV.
"Valerie," I heard my grandma call again.
"I'm coming grandma," I called rushing down the stairs. "Sorry I was talking to Rachel, she said hi by the way." I said walking into the kitchen.
"Oh she's such a sweetheart," my grandma replied. "Valerie I was wondering if you wanted this. It was your father's journal." She handed me a brown, worn out book that had pages sticking out of it.
"Uh, sure. Where did you find it?" I asked taking it.
"I was cleaning out the attic earlier today, and found it in a box of your father's things," She sad, going to the sink to wash the dishes.
"Thanks grandma," I said, heading back upstairs.

I've been reading my dads journal for a couple of hours, and it's actually very interesting. I've learned stuff about him and my mom. How they used to rule their high school together.
I skipped a bunch of pages before I got to one that had the words Time Machine written at the top. The date read January 17, 1999, a couple of weeks after I was born.
The page read, "Dear Journal, I'm sorry it's been a couple of weeks since I have wrote. Lisa had our baby, Valerie. She is so beautiful, and I am thanking God for her everyday."
Those couple of sentences made my eyes water, but I kept reading.
"I'm getting of topic. After years and years of work, I've finally finished my time machine. At least, I hope I have. I haven't tried it out yet for the fear that I will not be able to return from the past or the future. But, I can't have anyone else try it out because, I don't want anyone else to know about it. I will keep an update about how it's going. Sincerely, Daniel."
"A time machine," I whispered to myself, before setting the book on my night stand. "Sure," I whispered again, then drifted off to sleep.
