Obsidian Fates is an open-world fantasy RPG. Set in the kingdom of Vethys you, the MC, are called the Executioner. In Vethys there are three species that all hate each other. Humans, Vampires, and Demons. Among these three races there are multiple factions. To name a few among the humans there are the King's Official Hunters-officially certified people who take assignments from the King to kill Vampires and Demons alike, next are the Bounty Hunters-uncertified people who take commissions from the common folk but they're equally on wanted posters as much as infamous Vampires and Demons. For Vampires there are the Queen's Courtly Knights-the official soldiers of the Vampire Queen's army who fight on the frontlines against humans, next are the Bloodstained Overlords-nobles in the Queen's court who have conquered and enslaved human territories in the name of Vampire kind. And finally for Demons there are the Knights of Shadow-the law enforcement for the Demonic Empire who also fight as soldiers on the frontlines, and the Silver Fae-intelligence agents who hide among humans and Vampires to gather valuable war intel. But there are plenty more factions among the three races than just those. But anyway onto the story.

Before awaking you hear a voice say "An interesting development. Shall we move onto the next part of my plan 'Your Majesty'?". Then, you open your eyes. You find yourself in an odd crystal tub filled with water. You step out of the tup and over to a strange mirror in the room you're in. This is where you choose the gender of your protagonist. Though you'll first see the male protagonist when you look in the mirror. When you choose your protagonist you step away from the mirror and find a sword on the ground that you pick up and see an inscription on the hilt. This inscription is your name. When you read the inscription and remember your name the sword vanishes but you oddly know you'll see it again at the end of your journey. A new sword materializes in front of you and you grab it and take it with you.

As you leave the room you see a gates with an inscription above it reading 'This is the dwelling of the Executioner. Enter at your own peril'. You then continue walking not knowing where you're going but knowing you need to get there. As you walk you meet a boy in a black and red outfit. He introduced himself as Matthew Galloway. You introduce yourself as well and ask where the nearest settlement is. Matthew looks you up and down and says there's a human city called SnowBelt not too far away from where you two currently are. Matthew points you in the direction of SnowBelt. You thank him and continue walking. As you walk away Matthew looks at you from behind with intrigue saying something to himself about informing the Queen. He walks off in the opposite direction.

You continue walking to SnowBelt but strange creatures appear on the way. You fight the creatures and they die fairly quickly. Suddenly a male voice comes out from the shadows. And a young man comes out of the bushes. He introduces himself as Gabriel a resident and one of the King's Official Hunters. Gabriel asks where you're from and you reply that you don't know. Gabriel suspects you have amnesia and offers to lead you to SnowBelt so you can ask around for any leads as to who you might be. You take Gabriel up on that offer but before you can leave a group of those strange creatures, that Gabriel calls Byproducts, appears. You and Gabriel fight them off easily and Gabriel compliments your ability with a sword. He even says you have the capability of being on the the King's Official Hunters. Gabriel says he'll take you the rest of the way to SnowBelt and that if you want he'll put in an official request to the King to see if he'll take you one as one of his Official Hunters.

The two of you make it to SnowBelt where you see a post board full of requests to kill Vampires and Demons. All of which have high pay. You ask Gabriel why there are so many requests on the board if the King's Official Hunters take care of things like this. Gabriel explains that the requests on the board weren't as important if the King wasn't giving them to his Official Hunters directly. The only people who take the requests from the board are Bounty Hunters who aren't officially certified by the King. Therefore they have wanted posters as well as the 'infamous' Vampires and Demons on request boards like this. You question why the King wouldn't view every request to kill a dangerous Vampire or Demon as important since both races are very dangerous to the human way of life. Gabriel says that everyone needs to have priorities. Even the King. And the King prioritizes the well being of his kingdom first. Gabriel then walks away and you start questioning the King's morality as you follow.
