{Jaune has training AU}
Jaune was confused, one moment he was laying in his bed relaxing the next his parents burst into his room telling him to start packing because he had been accepted into beacon.
What confused him is he never applied to beacon.
Taking the letter from his parents(who were still panicking about this) he read the whole thing and got to a certain part. It read "although you haven't sent in an application to join, the staff here at beacon hate to see potential wasted. So we have taken the liberty to put an application in for you" now that sounded illegal he kept reading.
"We will expect you to come to the initiation site at 10:00 am on the xxth of this month, failure to attend will result in a professor being dispatched to retrieve you to attend the make up tests" wait...... Jaune looks at the calendar. THAT DATE IS TOMORROW! WHY WAS HE ONLY JUST NOW GETTING THIS LETTER?! He looks over at his parents to see them already finishing up packing, well at least that's one less thing he has to worry about. This feels highly suspect, he's never heard about beacon, or any huntsmen school for that matter, doing something like this.
He didn't know how to feel, he did always have the dream to become a huntsmen when he was a kid and he did know how to fight and all but he just found other hobbies that interested him.
He supposed he wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and get ready. He thanked his parents(who were currently sobbing that their baby boy was growing up so fast) and left for the family armory, his father was a retired huntsman and insisted his family knew how to defend themselves. Walking into the room he saw his personal set of plate armor and axe, both well kept and shining bright.

{The axe. Why an axe you ask? Because axes are cool.}

He gave them one last once over before packing them up to send to beacon. He dragged the boxes to the family bullhead and loaded them into it. He turned around just in time to be dog piled by his sisters and mother.
After many tears and promises to call home often, he and his father boarded the bullhead and started to beacon. The entire flight over his father was telling him how proud of jaune he was. Telling him to "remember his training" and "keep his eye on the prize" while also telling him he wouldn't mind him finding a partner to start a family with.
A few hours of advice from his father later, they made it to beacon. After unloading his luggage onto one of the waiting carts, and one final goodbye hug from his father. He started moving his stuff into beacon proper. Off loading his armor and axe into a locker. He took his overnight bag and started to make his way to the auditorium for the headmaster's speech.
Until he was interrupted by an explosion making his way over to the source of it he found, instead of the remains of an explosive device he found something much better, a cute girl.
Offering her his hand, which she gladly took with a thank you, he introduced himself. "Hey craterface, my name's Jaune arc what's yours?" This drew a disgruntled squawk from the girl. "Crater face!?" Jaune responded "well you are in a crater." "My name is Ruby, Ruby Rose." She snarked back. Jaune responded in kind "well Ruby Rose, I, must ask you something." "And what is that Jaune Arc?" "Are you going to let go of my hand or are we got to continue to hold hands all day? I'm fine with ether." Jaune asked while smiling smugly. This made Ruby as red as the gem she is named after, she snatched her hand back with a nervous laugh. "Well as much as I would love to stand here and tease you all day, we should get to the auditorium." Jaune reminded her. "R-right" Ruby stuttered out.
As they made their way to the auditorium they tried to make small talk. Jaune found out that Ruby went to signal academy and had been let into beacon early on account of her talent. Something she tried to hide from Jaune at first. He told her that she should be proud of the fact the headmaster has so much faith in her. He hated lying to the poor girl, he knew it was because of her eyes but it seemed like she didn't. She replied that "I don't want to be the bees knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees!" This caused Jaune to snort and nearly trip over himself. "Normal knees huh? Well I believe you'll be a great huntress in the future." Ruby blushes again at this and tries to change the subject by pulling out, a box?
Ruby stated she was a bit of a weapon nut, the box she was holding folded out into a massive red and black scythe. "So this is Crescent Rose my weapon." Said Ruby proudly, in the tone of a proud parent, as she practically cuddled with the weapon. "Well that's certainly something, and you swing this thing around? You must be stronger than you look." Jaune said getting a good look at the scythe. "Although I'm surprised you picked a gardening tool to kill grimm." Ruby gasped like he had just insulted her entire family line. "Crescent Rose is not a gardening tool! He's my baby!" Ruby shouted. "Scythes are traditionally used to cut wheat and grass, so they are gardening tools. Especially with the blade perpendicular to the snath{the hilt or handle of a scythe} like that, war scythes have the blade parallel to the snath which made them more akin to spears or halberds than a true scythe." Jaune explained. Ruby looked like someone had just shot a puppy in front of her. "So you're saying I made crescent Rose wrong?" She asked, her voice wavering like she was about to burst out crying at any moment. Jaune looked panicked, he didn't mean to make her sad he just wanted to point it out curse his tendency to go on tangents. "Well it's your choice at the end of the day, it's harder to use in a fight like that but I'm sure you can make great use of it." He quickly stated, trying his hardest to calm the girl down. "Really? You think so?" Ruby asked looking at him with hope in her eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure of it." Jaune said, happy that he didn't make the first girl he met at beacon cry by insulting her weapon choices.
"Well what do you have?" Ruby asked, looking around his person for a hidden weapon. "Well." Jaune started "I don't have it on me at the moment, it's a bit unwieldy to carry around all the time, but I have a battle axe that I made myself." Ruby looked extremely interested"ooh! What does it do, does it shoot fire? Does it transform into a cannon? Does it-" Ruby was cut off by Jaune holding her mouth closed. "Slow down there sweetheart. It's just an axe nothing else." Ruby was blushing and shooting steam out of her ears from being called "sweetheart" but she looked almost disappointed "it's not a mecha-shift?" Ruby asked trying to ignore her face hearing up. "I like to keep my weapons simple, and mecha-shift weapons are anything but simple." Jaune explained "too many points of failure for my tastes." He continued. Ruby acquiesced to his decision, remembering all the long nights she spent repairing and reinforcing her weapon. "But what do you do when you have to attack something at range?" She asked.
"Well I don't have anything for that yet, I was planning on finding something while attending beacon, maybe you can help me you seem to know a lot about guns? I'm more familiar with melee weapons than firearms." Ruby looked ecstatic, she actually had stars in her eyes.(how? He didn't know, or want to know, the answer.) "Really!? Oooh I have so many ideas already!" She exclaimed, very excited to help her newest friend. "Well the ideas will have to wait, we've arrived." Jaune pointed out.
Walking into the auditorium Ruby sighted her sister and bid a quick farewell to Jaune before shooting off, leaving the boy alone. He idly wondered if she always did that as he walked in to the large group of students finding a free spot he settled in to wait. He didn't have to do so for long. Headmaster Ozpin waltzed on to stage with all the confidence of a seasoned politician. If he saw the glare Jaune gave him he didn't react. The speech the headmaster gave was uninteresting, after he released the hopeful students to the ball room to get rested for the night.
Jaune sent a quick text to the family group chat that he was at beacon and safe, a flurry of replies was his response asking how it was, if he had made any friends yet, his mother even asked if he had met a girl he liked yet. That caused him to send a quick goodbye and turn off his scroll. Looking around him he observed the other students, there was a good mix of nervousness and surety. More of the former than the latter. He saw a flash of red in the crowd and made his way towards it. Finding Ruby talking to a blond girl, he made himself know by calling her name. "Hey, Crater face!" Or at least her nickname. Ruby's head snapped around to level a glare that could melt concrete at him. "What did you call my sister?" The blond asked with her own glare. "In my defense she was in a crater when I met her" Jaune explained hoping to defuse the blond bombshell he had just set off. "Wait you actually exploded?" The girl asked turning to Ruby with a look of concern. "Yes! I told you that already, but you didn't believe me!" "I thought you were joking or just got angry at someone! I never expected that you actually exploded!" The blond shot back. "How about we just calm down and relax?" Jaune said trying to deescalate the situation he had inadvertently caused. Both girls took a deep breath. "That's better, now I don't believe I caught your name beautiful." Jaune said trying to get the girls mind off of the argument they just had. "My name's Yang handsome. But you can call me anytime~." The now identified Yang purred. "I might just have to take you up on that offer hun." Jaune flirted back. "Stop trying to steal my first friend Yang!" Ruby yelled jumping on between them with a red face. "Oh~? Have you already claimed him?" Yang teased her sister "Pretty bold of you Ruby, we just met barely an hour ago and you're already calling me your's~" Jaune said joining in on the teasing. Ruby's face some how became even more red as she tried to hide her face in her hood. "Oh no! There's two now! Yang was already bad enough!" She whined. "HEY!" Yang yelled. Jaune chuckled at the two sisters. Having heard many such exchanges between his sisters.
The moment was interrupted by a screeching banshee. "YOU!" "Oh Ohm it's her again!" Ruby yelled jumping into her sister's arms. "What do you mean 'its her again'!? You're the one who nearly killed us both!" The banshee countered. "Calm down ice queen it was an accident." Jaune said defending his friend. "You stay out of this!" The white haired girl yelled. "I'm not going to stand idly by while you yell at my friend, so you can either watch you tone or piss off." The girl looked scandalized. "Why, I never! Such vulger language is befitting of a brute such as you!" "If you keep this up I'll show you just how 'vulgar' I can be!" Jaune said angrily, he didn't even know the girl and she was already insulting him. "Don't you know who you're talking to!?" She screeched. "No I don't, and I don't rightly care! You have been nothing but rude to me and my friends from the moment you've met us. Now are you going to calm down and act like a responsible person or are you going to continue to be a bitch?" She huffed turning to Ruby and shoving a pamphlet into her hands. "Read this and never talk to me again." The cover of the paper reads "dust for dummies" "The Schnee Dust Company is not responsible for any injuries or damages sustained while operating a Schnee Dust Company product. Although not mandatory, the Schnee Family highly encourages their customers to read and familiarize themselves with this easy to follow guide to Dust applications and practices in the field." She recited mechanically. "Hey, maybe we just got off on the wrong foot? My name's Yang, what's yours?" "Weiss, charmed to meet you. Now leave me alone." She attempted to walk away only to nearly walk into Jaune, a look of realization crossed her face. "You...... You're an Arc!" "Yes?" Jaune responded unsure. "Why does that make a difference?" He continued. "The Arc's are legendary warriors, famous for producing some of the most well known hunters in history!" She said looking rather embarrassed realizing she called him a brute earlier. Jaune looked at her with a blank look, he was hoping to keep that to himself until after the teams were made. Ruby and Yang went wide eyed at the news. "Well thank you ice bitch for telling everyone my business." Jaune said sarcastically "why would you want to keep that from everyone?!" Ruby shouted. "This is why." Jaune stated. "I don't want people to think of me as a great warrior and only a warrior." Weiss chimed in "Arcs have always been great warriors, that's what they're known for. Why wouldn't you want to have that respect?" Jaune sighed "I want to be known as Jaune not as another warrior from the Arc clan. I want to make my own name for myself, not ride the coat tails of my ancestors." He explained. "Now I think it's about time to go to sleep, we have a busy day tomorrow." He reminded them Weiss cleared her throat "he's right, early to bed early to rise and all." With that they bid each other good night and retired to bed.
An orange haired girl yells at her neighbor. "Wake up lazy butt!" Her target groans and sits up as she continues to hound......him? Jaune isn't sure. "It's morning! It's morning! It's morning! It's morning!" She sings loudly. Jaune is slightly annoyed, but he's used to wake-up calls like this from his little sisters. He rubs the sleep from his eyes and gets up, repacking his bag and heading towards the bathrooms to freshen up. As he brushes his teeth he continues to hear the loud girl talking to her friend, he feels bad for the brunette. He finished up his routine and left to the locker rooms to gear up. Meeting Ruby, Yang, and unfortunately Weiss nearby by his locker the latter standing in front of his locker. He deadpanned, sending a quick screw you to the universe for his luck, he walked up to Weiss who was bothering a red haired girl he swore he recognized but couldn't quite put his finger on it. "Hey ice queen." He called "Oh it's you Arc, what is it? Can't you see I'm busy?" She ground out, he noticed the person talking to her reacted to the name she said. "You're standing in front of my locker." He said flatly. She had the manners to look embarrassed. "Oh, sorry." She quietly said. "You're an Arc?" The red head asked him. "Yeah I am. Why?" Jaune responded "I wanted to ask you if you know the person who fought me a few years ago. The one with the gold and red armor?" She asked. Jaune smirked "Of course I know him" he said unlocking his locker "He's me" he said as he opened his locker showing her his armor. The assembled girls eyes went wide seeing his gleaming armor and axe. "That was you?" The red head sounded flabbergasted. "What do I not look like you envisioned?" He joked "Pyrrha, what's the big deal? I know he's an Arc but why do you care so much?" Weiss asked. "Out of everyone he's the only one who I couldn't beat." She said bringing a surprised look from the white haired girl. "The only reason I didn't lose is that he walked out of the arena after knocking me on my butt with his first strike." Weiss looked like her entire world view shattered. "So Pyrrha your name huh?" Jaune said as he was equipping his sabatons. "You didn't even know her name?!" Weiss screeched. "Names are irrelevant in a fight, they don't make a difference in the long run." Jaune said as he strapped on his gauntlets. Weiss was desperately trying to think of a way to get them both on her team, but Jaune already disliked her because of her attitude earlier. She has to get them both their brawn and skill, and her brains would be unstoppable. "So Jaune, Pyrrha, what do you think about teams?" Weiss asked in a sweet voice. "Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may." Pyrrha said noncommittally. "I would rather be on a team with a Beowolf than you ice bitch." Jaune said obviously knowing what she was doing. This made Weiss deflate as she realized she had ruined her chances with the Arc boy. Jaune took this chance to leave the locker room after grabbing his axe.
Making his way to the cliff he stood on his assigned spot, feeling a bit of give when he stepped on it. Ozpin and Glynda came to talk to him. "Hello Mr Arc, how are you feeling this morning?" Ozpin said "politely" Jaune glared at him behind his faceplate. "I'm fine headmaster, how are you?" He ground out trying his best to sound nice. "But I do have a question for you." He continued. "Oh, what is it young man?" Ozpin asked interested. "Why did I receive the letter about my forced enrollment into beacon only a day before the initiation?" Jaune asked. "Forced enrollment?" Glynda asked. "What do you mean by that?" Seeing the surprised look in Ozpin's face made Jaune smile. "Oh did you not know?" He said handing the letter to Glynda. As she read the paper her face went from surprised to angry. She glared at the now sweating Ozpin. "I'll make sure to look into this, thank you for bringing this to my attention." Glynda told Jaune dragging Ozpin away. Jaune smiled at that. A few minutes later the rest of the students arrived at the cliff. After a short and forgettable speech by Ozpin. They were launched into the forest. Jaune flew through the air looking for a landing spot he found a clearing and angled towards it. He landed with a crash on one knee. Rising to his feet he looked around seeing nothing he started towards the relics. A short time of walking later he heard a commotion and broke into a run in the direction of the sound. Breaking through the tree line he found Pyrrha fighting a pack of beowolves and an ursa. He quickly moved to help. Cleaving through 3 of the beowolves with his first swing brought the fighters attention to him. His golden armor seemingly glowing in the light, he continued to attack the grimm. Killing more with contemptuous ease as the fight continues. The ursa, seemingly trying to get revenge for its smaller compatriots, charged at him swinging its massive claws at the knight. Jaune intercepted is claws with his axe cleaving the limb off, drawing a roar from the bear grimm. Swinging the axe above his head he brought it down on the beast's head finally bringing its life to an end. Looking over at Pyrrha he saw her dispatch the last beowolf. They convened in the middle of the clearing officially recognizing each other as partners. "So I'm stuck with you for the rest of my time at beacon? Good, you might be able to keep up with me." Jaune said turning to walk towards the relics. Pyrrha quickly followed.
As the pair walked through the forest they came upon one of their classmates, or at least he would have been. The claw and bite marks on his body showed that the grimm had gotten to him before they had found him. Jaune kneeled down next to him to check for a pulse, and found none. Shaking his head he turned to see his partner covering her mouth seemingly trying to keep her breakfast down, he guessed this was the first corpse she had seen up close. He started searching through the boys pockets. "What are you doing?" Pyrrha asked sounding unsure. "Looking for- this" Jaune said holding up the boys scroll, he sent a pick-up signal so the bullheads could find the kids body. "Why do you need his scroll?" Pyrrha asked. "I sent a signal to the bullheads. So the family can have something to bury." He said laying the scroll on the body's chest and closing its eyes. After quietly intoning one last prayer for the boy's soul and his family, he stood up and started walking away. Pyrrha sent one last look at the body then followed him.
They continued to march through the forest, Pyrrha felt uneasy, eventually after a few minutes(and meeting and killing a few grimm) she spoke up. "Jaune, are you sure we shouldn't have done more for that boy?" Jaune looked back at her. "Unless you can raise the dead we can't do anything for him." "We could have stayed and made sure the bullheads found him?" Pyrrha provided. "If we stayed we would have failed the mission." Jaune told her. "Does the mission matter more than your teammates?" Pyrrha asked. "No, if we had made it to him before his death I would have moved heaven and earth to help him, but we were too late. It's standard huntsmen protocol to signal for a bullhead and continue the mission of one of your teammates dies. Usually there's a lot more lives riding on us completing our missions then now." Jaune informed her. Pyrrha was silent at that. The conversation ended when they made it to the clearing surrounding the ruins containing the relics.
Making their way into the heart of the ruins they came upon the..........relics. "chess pieces? Seriously?" Jaune asked. "At least it's unique?" Pyrrha said sounding just as unimpressed as her partner. They noticed that a few pieces were missing already. "We aren't the first ones here. Which ones should we take?" Jaune asked. "Hmm, these ones." She said picking up one of the rooms, Jaune took the other one of the same color. "So now what?" Asked Pyrrha "we wait. Strength in numbers, we could also see who picks up the other rooks." Jaune stated, then his turned quickly to the side brandishing his axe. "We're not alone." He said quietly. "Come out now." He shouted. "Woah calm down golden boy, it's just us." Yang said walking out from behind a pillar with her hands up with another girl behind her. Jaune relaxed slightly. "Oh, it's you Yang and..... You..... I don't know your name." The girl sweat drops and speaks. "My name's Blake." "Good to meet you. This is Pyrrha." Jaune greets her with Pyrrha waving hello. "So handsome, which piece did you pick up, I'm sure we could have a lot of fun 'bonding' as teammates~" Yang teased. "We took the rook pieces sweet cheeks~." He teased back. Yang laughed and took the other rook piece while Blake took the last one. Pyrrha pouted at the blatant flirting the two blonds were doing, Blake was confused. They obviously knew each other and flirted, but Yang said she was single earlier while trying to break the ice with her. They talked for a bit longer about nothing in particular just getting to know each other.
They were interrupted by an ursa plowing into the clearing, the 4 teammates instantly dropped into fighting stances, only to be confused when the grimm dropped to the ground dead. They heard a voice from the back of the grimm. "Aww it's broken." They looked to see the energetic orange haired girl from this morning, the brunette guy(Jaune still couldn't tell) came running after the grimm out of breath. He called after the girl, "Nora please don't ever do that again." "Ok Ren!" The now named Nora shouts. She then zips over to the relics and takes her pick of the batch. "Ooooooooh, a pony! I've always wanted a pony!" She yells taking both black knights, she zips back over to Ren and hands it to him.(read: shoves it into his hands)
The 6 students are now waiting for the remaining few people to make it to the ruins. "The only remaining pieces are the other knights and two pawns." Jaune stated "so we won't have to wait too long." He placated the vibrating Nora. "Alrighty Goldy!" Nora agreed, sauteing the knight. Ren looked surprised at this. "I'm usually the only one she listens to." Jaune flipped the face plate of his helmet up and smiled. "I have a younger sister who acts a lot like her, I've learned how to deal with her type." The radiant smile he showed made the students in the clearing squint.(and made them blush, not that they'll ever admit to it) A commotion from the air caught their attention, a pair of girls hitching a ride on a giant nevermore. And then being dropped to the ground each one using their semblances. That was something Jaune had never seen before. A crashing from the tree line made him turn to see a person running towards them, with a deathstalker on his tail. That he had seen before. He reacted first and started barking orders. "Nora, Ren, help Ruby and Weiss kill the bird! Yang, Blake, Pyrrha! With me we'll deal with the bug!" The teams jumped into action Nora and Ren running over to Ruby and Weiss to help pluck the chicken. The other 4 engaged the deathstalker. "Pyrrha, you and me will distract it. Blake try to cut the stinger off. Yang when she does, nail it into the bugs head." A chorus of agreements answered him. Jaune and Pyrrha each take a pincher each keeping them busy while Blake snuck around the back of the grimm, Pyrrha had her shield raised holding the limb back while Jaune slashed at his taking chunks out of the grimms armor. Blake got around the scorpion and made her move. Wrapping her ribbon around the tail and pulling herself in she sent a heavy slash just below the stinger, sending it flying. Yang saw her moment and leapt into action, catching the stinger and with a mighty roar of effort slammed it into the head of the bug ending it's struggling. The team celebrated a successful maneuver. They turned to see Ruby, after being launched by Weiss and Nora, cut straight through the nevermore.
With their enemies slain and the day won. The remaining students took their relics. The unknown students that had run from the deathstalker wondered aloud where his partner was, having not met anyone else on his trip through the forest. Weiss offered they were probably just late, Jaune then spoke up watching a bullhead fly into the forest. "Unfortunately you won't be able to meet him." "Why? He should just be able to wait for him right?" Jaune took his helmet off and turned to the gathered students. "He won't be coming, he unfortunately didn't make it through the forest. Pyrrha and I came upon his body on our walk through the forest. We called the bullheads to retrieve his remains." Jaune said sadly. The faces of the students shifted to ones of disbelief and sorrow. The realization of the stakes of the initiation stunning them.
Returning to the cliff was a bittersweet feeling for the assembled teams. Teams RNRS (rhinoceros){Its a color! The name generator said so} and BANY (brandy).
Stowing their weapons and armor, the two teams dragged their luggage to the newly assigned dorm rooms. Splitting up to enter the two rooms, the teams began putting away the various clothes and personal effects they had brought with them. After they were done and started settling in Yang spoke up. "Alright, how's about we set some ground rules for the dorm?" "Sounds like a good idea" Blake agreed "Okay, first things first, basic stuff like don't touch what ain't yours should be obvious." Yang started "Then comes the more complex stuff like a shower schedule and where we will change." She continued. "We could change in the bathroom?" Pyrrha remarked. "Sounds good to me." Jaune responded. "That's another thing rules solely for you, being the only guy on the team." Yang questioned. "You don't need to worry about that, living with 7 sisters has taught me a few things." Jaune deflected.
There was a brief pause as his teammates looked at him in surprise. Then the silence was broken.
"SEVEN SISTERS!?" The three girls exclaimed in unison. "Yeah, 4 older and 3 younger." Jaune confirmed. "How did you survive? Ruby is a bit of a handful on her own having 6 other siblings would be horrific!" Yang asked, thinking of 7 Rubys tearing up the house while on a sugar high. That thought made her shudder. "You get used to it, they can be a lot at times but they're family." Said Jaune remembering all the fond memories he made with his sisters. Then he remembered all the times they annoyed or pranked him. After recounting a few stories of his times with Jaunes sisters they decided to get some shut-eye. Wishing each other a good night the team went to sleep, happy to have new friends.(And if Yang has her way, new lovers.)

{And done, this took a while to write. This au has a few surprises I'm planning with the Arcs and other people as well. Next time we'll see Jaunes skill in action and learn more about the secrets he keeps. 5144 words}
